What Bad Thing Has Saddam Done Lately?
Various ^ | 4 September 2002 | Self

I'll make this short and sweet. I have not seen evidence for a reason to invade Iraq or demand a regime change there.

Okay, Saddam gassed his own people twelve years ago or so. There have been multiple accusations of his development of weapons of mass destruction, including biological and chemical weapons development.

All the TV footage I see of Saddam Hussein is about 10 years old. Show me the evidence.

Something is going to happen soon and I'd like to know why. Is that too much too ask?

No, I'm not defending the man, I'm just asking a few simple questions. Evidence is all I'll looking for.

Have at it.

He agreed to weapons inspections to assure he has no WMD in return for a cessation of hostilities. He has not delivered on his end.

By allowing that to happen with no consequenses, we tell our enemies to lie to us and there will be no consequences.

With all the talk of Hussein threatening us with chemical weapons, here is a trick question for you:

What is the only government to use chemical weapons against US citizens on US soil?

I'll give you a hint: it ain't Iraq.

You'll get the evidence.

Even Tony Blair is admitting that there's plenty of reason to take Hussein out.

Besides, it'll scare the hell out of every Arab government in the region. These ragheads will be cleaning up their acts, especially if we've got a couple hundred thousand troops just miles from their doorsteps (I'm thinking of Iran).

My thoughts exactly. The only reply you get is, "it's on its way" or "the powers that be have seen the evidence."

Something is going to happen soon

And if doesn't happen soon, but let's say happens in 2-3 years? Anyway. I'll draw you a parallel. After WW1, Germany wasn't supposed to stockpile weapons. But it did. It wasn't a secret that Hitler was building up his war machine all through 1930's. But euros are appeasers and didn't want to bother with war, so they closed their eyes and gave Czheckoslovakia to him. We got WW2 in return, tens of millions died just because we failed to enforce what was agreed on after WW1 - for germany not to build up its arsenal.

I know that's the party line, Spinky, but I don't think it's good policy to keep us peons in the dark. Show me some evidence.

Cause we didn't finish the job we should have. Cause there are defectors with evidence that he is trying to aquire nukes and has bio weapons. Because he refused weapon inspectors that were a condition of their surrender.......... Just let our military do its job.

Also, There have been multiple accusations of his development of weapons of mass destruction, including biological and chemical weapons development.

Any country could say that about the U.S. as well. Doesn't mean they should invade us.

The best thing to do is to have patience; we'll be informed shortly. Whatever the information is, it's something serious enough to warrant action.

As far as the other "bad things" that Saddam has done... um, are you really serious in asking this?

For one thing, there is evidence of Iraq's involvement in 911, so far the media is keeping this pretty quiet, but you might see a blurb once in a blue moon! Perhaps if you do a search, you will find articles on FR that might enlighten you on a few things like this.

"What bad thing has Saddam Hussein done lately?"

Breathing comes to mind.

If he even talked about, thought about, or had wet dreams about, the massacre of Black Tuesday (and he is on record as supporting it), that's good enough for me. Screw him. Since when do we have to pretend this is a bad L.A. Law episode?

As the Texans say, "He needs killin'".

what bad things has Iraq done?

Nothing that I know of directly, with their own hands. However, they have provided cover and support for Al Quida and a number of terrorist actions. I can't provide links, though, because I don't remember which actions they supported.

Look at it this way. All of the invasion rhetoric has at least kept Iraq from taking any overt action. IMHO the invasion talk, especially when connected with Kurdish Iraq, is all that has kept Iraq quiet.

If Iraq had the means of invading us and winning the war, you think they wouldn't? Or saudis? Or any other of our arab "friends"?

He took a breath this morning?

Seriously, I would like to see why we need to go after him at this moment. I have no doubt he needs to go for the long term stability of the region

This all would be a moot point, he should have been pushing up daisies after the gulf war.
