Let's see:
MILITARY AWARDS
General Powell is the recipient of numerous U.S. military awards and decorations including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Distinguished Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Soldier's Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple Heart.
Now, the one medal that stands out to me is the Soldier's Medal which is probably one of the least conferred medals for heroism awarded. Also comparing Powell to Grant is kind of silly as Grant never had to deal with things like, um, a Soviet Union that had massive numbers of troops in Europe and intercontinental nuclear capability.
Regards.
Are you a paid political hack for him? Why not tell everybody WHY the SM is the least awarded medal? Could it have anything to do with the FACT that it is a non-combat award given for saving the life of another soldier? Now why don't we tell everybody how Powell got it,ok? He got it while serving as a staff officer (REMF position) on his second tour in VN and the helicopter he was flying in had mechanical troubles and crash landed. Nobody died, but he put himself in for saving the life on a injured soldier by taking him out of the helicopter.
While we're at it,why not focus on the REAL award he received that deserves our focus, the Purple Heart? Powell put himself in for the PH for injuries he suffered in the helicopter crash. The problem with this is that you do NOT qualify for a PH if your injury isn't a direct result of enemy action. That is,you have to be injured due to enemy fire, not a mechanical problem totally unrelated to combat.
Also comparing Powell to Grant is kind of silly
You're right. Grant was a actual soldier.
