I watched PrimeTime last night on ABC where Diane Sawyer interviewed the various widows of men killed at the WTC who had babies since the attack. It was a well-done program; very touching and sad because these children are not going to grow up with their fathers.
Something struck me that was missing from the program...not ONE woman mentioned any anger they felt at the terrorists for what they did to their families. Again, this may have been conveyed by some of the women and edited out for PC purposes - we don't want to offend the terroists you know! This ran on one of the networks after all. Did anyone else notice this? I would be interested to find out if anyone else also made this observation.
I know I'm still angry about the attacks of 9/11. I've noticed a general reduction in anger at what was done to our country almost a year ago. I know over time this can happen because of human nature being what it is, but while it's good to mourn those who have been lost, a little righteous anger at the rotten S.O.B.'s that did this still seems appropriate to me.
This was just an observation I made watching PrimeTime last evening. I am new to FreeRepublic. I registered yesterday after being a lurker for quite awhile so be patient with me as I am new to posting on this site.
Yes, the babies were cute and they made for an engaging group photo shoot. But the rest of the program was just a maudlin, treacly attempt at manipulating your heartstrings - a chick-flick of a newsmag story. We in this household take a dim view of stories like this one that reek of "Feelings ... Nothing More Than FEEL-ings..." My wife immediately bolted and went to bed, and I went out on the deck and played with our three "furry children."
When some newsmag tease comes on promising "a heart-rending story that will leave you in tears," I say "Thanks for warning me - no thanks," and gleefully find something else to watch/do.
I said back on September 12, 2001 that one of the WORST by-products of the terrorist attacks would be the media's compulsion to do a "human-interest" story on every last one of the 3000 or so victims. The media hasn't let me down. And they're not done yet.

Welcome to FR!
"Revenge would be easy, but it is far more valuable in my opinion to address this problem of terrorism with enough honesty to question our own responsibility as nations and as individuals for the rise of terrorism. My own courage arises from two facts. One is that throughout this ordeal I have been surrounded by people of amazing value. This helps me trust that humanism ultimately will prevail."
"My other hope now -- in my seventh month of pregnancy -- is that I will be able to tell our son that his father carried the flag to end terrorism, raising an unprecedented demand among people from all countries not for revenge but for the values we all share: love, compassion, friendship and citizenship far transcending the so-called clash of civilizations"
Personally, I can't understand this and find it sickening. She is either emotionally flat, or brain-dead from living in the gutter of French socialism.
They do indeed - that is why I watched it. What really ticked me off is the fact that, of all of the widows who had babies after 9/11, ABC specifically chose to focus on the human interest story of a muslim woman.
There are weekends in the Boston, New York and Washington DC areas (and around the nation.) Just click on USA and then your area of the map that comes up.
This is stange because anger is one of the phases that Elisabeth Kubler-Ross talks about in her book, On Death and Dying. It must be suppressed, and it will come out.
Denial
Bargaining
Anger
Depression
Acceptance
Kubler-Ross does not mention a final phase which is
Reaching Out.

That's why they need to give themselves an outlet (like a retreat) to let the anger come out, rather than exploding at children or friends.
