Greenpeace spokesman Brian Fitzgerald denied that the Green movement is trying to deny hihger living standards to the world's poorest nations.

LOL.....the Greens were just talking about how the should not allow electricity in as it ruin these poor countries.

Note to president Bush: If there's a Liberty Institute of New Delhi. in India, we should create closer ties with India.

Me thinks the free market message spreading? Poor countries are getting tired of socialism?

Now, the only thing we need to do is drop our protectionism so we don't seem like such hypocrites

Exactly! When someone uses the word "comrades" You should start reaching for 1 a gun, 2 your wallet. Cause they want one of two things your life or your money.

"The protestors - including disgruntled street vendors, traders, farmers and free-market advocates - believe the Earth summit's agenda is designed to keep developing nations from achieving economic prosperity by limiting infrastructure development that environmentalists consider to be ecologically destructive."

Well, the protestors have the agenda two thirds right. Now, if we can get them to understand that UN "sustainable development" is only the means to attain the end of ending economic prosperity.....

Anyhow....this is still GREAT NEWS. BUMP!

"The United States is taking the brunt of criticism at the World Summit on Sustainable Development and a group of U.S. congressmen stepped up the pressure on Thursday, laying into the Bush administration."

Then the Bush administration is obviously on the right track. STICK TO YOUR GUNS, MR. PRESIDENT!!

(...oh, and beady-eyed Daschle mini-me, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Oh) can go suck tofu/fungus turkey. He's next on the list of politicians who need to GO. )

My husband's response to contretemps surrounding the rather oppulent surroundings of the UN conference on hunger, posted here with his blessings.

I am outraged but not surprised by the behavior of the gluttonous behavior of the delegates. I don' have any zero sum illusions that food consumed by the delegates would otherwise have fed the starving of Africa. Frankly, I think the rural people of dry central highlands of southern Africa would, if presented with a live choice Maine lobster, rather
sensibly beat it to death with a stick and burn the remains.

No, my outrage comes from This-Group-of-People who:

•jet about the world, work in palatial offices, stay in five star hotels, whisk to and fro in limousines and, last but not least, gorge on the finest, most expensive cuisines.

•produce NOTHING, not so much as bookshelf or an ear of corn.

•do nothing other than order other people around.

•spend their days coming up with new ways to use force and threats disguised as government to coerce and kill others.

•thoughout the twentieth century have as an ideological class endorsed and supported the greatest of the mass killers.

•have foisted legions of failed policies on the developing world, watched them repeatedly crash an burn, always blame the failures on everyone else, then turned around and do the same damn thing all over again.

This-Group-of-People has the unmitigated gall to look down from their ivory towers built of the bones of the people they failed and say very snottily that all the problems of the world are MY FAULT.

The world is poor because I am (compared to most of the humans in the world) materially wealthy. They starve because I eat well. They don't have housing because I do. They don't have clean water because I do. They are oppressed because I am free. Everything I make, grow or produce is stolen from them.

I am outraged because they tacitly claim that the entire world would suddenly receive a great boost if I ate a gun. (Wait, better snuff the children too the greedy little
b*******. I know my son stole a gameboy cartridge right out the hands of a starving Zimbabwe boy right before the boy was going to eat it!)

I am outraged that nobody ever stops to ask if maybe, just maybe, this This-Group-of-People doesn't give a tinker's damn about the poor. Maybe, just maybe, the conference and the entire concept of sustained development is nothing but freaking sham. Maybe, just maybe, what This-Group-of-People really desire is power and status and they will exploit the suffering of the poor of the world to get it.

I am outraged because I think that deep down, late at night in their most fevered wet dreams, This-Group-of-People fantasizes about long queues of corporate executives, engineers, scientist, farmer, artist and anyone else who makes or creates, who must crawl across the floors of the mandarins palatial offices and beg and plead for the right to invent, create or produce ANYTHING.

And in their wet dream, when the creators beg to make something new, This-Group-of-People will lean forward, smile and say "NO."

Afterwards, when they ride in their limo from the five star hotel to airport to attend the latest conference of the wise and wonderful and they pass by the People standing in the streets in their squalid but ever so equal poverty they will erupt in orgasmic delight because everyone on entire planet will know whose ass they have to kiss to get some crumbs from the table.

Thatís why I am outraged.

Have a nice day. I'm off to adjust my meds.

As they marched through the streets surrounding the Sandton Convention Center

Odd place to have a meeting about poverty. The Sandton Sun is the finest hotel in sub-Sahara Africa and is the anchor of a shopping complex that looks like the Houston Galleria.

"...environmental activists at the summit "romanticize poverty when they come in their airplanes and stay in five-star hotels, talking about poverty and not giving the options to the people who are actually poor to come out of poverty."

Looordy, Lordy, Lordy!! This conflagration of Socialist push their agendas and do nothing but exacerbate the poor and starving problems while eating copious piles of endangered species and swigging gallons of rare wine...what a party for the elitists among us!

The Sierra Club; The Greens; the Global Warming crowd etc. Private planes, expensive rooms, limos and private meetings in swank places, Oh my what a party at the expense of so many thousands of impoverished people. Sounds just like the leftists in this country, Tom Daschle, Hillary Clinton and their socialist/Marxist crowd...the Elite of the World Unite in Johannesburg. What a crock of utter nonsense this United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development is! Profligators all!
