The Politically Correct Ethnic Cleansing Of White Farmers In Zimbabwe
ToogoodReports ^ | August 28, 2002 | Mary Mostert

Largely ignored, or perhaps, worse, largely applauded ethnic cleansing of white farmers is taking place in Zimbabwe with very little concern being shown by most of the world. In fact, this week in neighboring South Africa 100 world heads of State will gather in Johannesburg during the UN´s World Summit on Sustainable Development to express their concern about something called "global warming." Only, the latest findings of climatologists indicate global warming doesn´t actually exist. In fact, according to embarrassing new findings, the Antarctic has been cooling for some time now. This contradicts the findings of the climate models upon which the case for global warming is built that predicted the Earth poles will warm more rapidly than the rest of the Earth.

Whatever the eventual case may be for global warming, so far, as of August 2002, it seems the global warming scare was based on inaccurate simulated climate models that predicted greater and more rapid warming at the North and South poles than for the rest of the world. The opposite is happening. Instead of warming, the poles have been cooling. .

However, the great fear of the organizers of the World Summit on Sustainable Development is that real problems involving ethnic cleansing of white farmers, the AIDs pandemic which is depopulating entire towns and now the threat of half the population dying of starvation since Mugabe has halted food production in Zimbabwe might prompt "diplomatic efforts to hijack the summit to put the Zimbabwe issue at the center of the agenda."

According to the CIA Fact book of nations, the current life expectancy at birth in Zimbabwe is 38.51 years for males and 35.7 years for females. In 1975, before Mugabe took control of Zimbabwe, when it was still ruled by the evil white man, the life expectancy at birth for Zimbabwe was 49.8 years for males and 53.3 years for females. The death rate in 1975 was 16 per 1000 population. Today the death rate is 23.22 per 1000 population. That, of course, does not count the people who will die of starvation now that the commercial farms have been seized and put out of production by the Mugabe government.

Yet, CNN, which gave us minute-by-minute emotional reports when it thought Albanians were being "ethnically cleansed" in 1999, has not considered ethnic cleansing of Whites in Zimbabwe newsworthy. CNN reported, "The increasingly unpopular government of President Robert Mugabe plans to seize nearly 5,000 farms -- 95 percent of properties owned by whites -- saying they are to be distributed to landless blacks."

Strangely, it did not report that Robert Mugabe´s wife, Grace Mugabe, demanded, and got, the keys to a $100 million, 27-room mansion on 3000 acres in the Mazowe Valley belonging to John and Eva Matthews, both in their late 70s, who spent 40 years of their lives and large sums of money planting the orchards, building irrigation systems and their home in African bush country. Far from being a "landless black", Grace Mugabe built a 30-room villa in 1996. But, the Matthews are white and the Mugabes wanted their home. So, they stole it.

Of course, along with the whites that are being driven off productive farms, approximately 270,000 blacks that lived and worked on those farms are also jobless and homeless. How long, do you suppose, without the people who developed those commercial farms and know how to manage and work them will Mugabe and his friends be able to enjoy their stolen property?

The fatal flaw in the thinking of the politically correct, radical environmentalist crowd is their often expressed belief in the "fragile balance of nature and of the repercussions of our actions and inactions," which, they believe, threaten nature.

Only people who have never grown a garden make such silly statements. Any gardener will tell you that, far from being fragile, actually nature is bent on undoing anything humans do. Without someone pulling out the seedling trees and brush, and maintaining the orchards and irrigation systems, in a matter of a few years the African bush will have reclaimed Mugabe´s stolen farms.

With the now triple threat of governmental anarchy, the AIDS pandemic and starvation, those seized farms may very well become the 21st century´ addition to the Zimbabwe ruins near Masvingo, from which modern Zimbabwe took it's name.

Right. Like the "animal rights activists" who were attacked by a grizzly sow in Idaho over the weekend.

Nature is out to kill you.

What's happening in Zimbabwe with the land grab is an absolute disaster. But it's not ethnic cleansing by any stretch of the imagination.

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

"But it's not ethnic cleansing by any stretch of the imagination."

Taking their property, revoking their citizenship, forcing them out of the country.

Ethnic cleansing does not have to mean genocide.

Let me also add that I think she's being disingenuous when complaining about the reporting of the "ethnic cleansing" of Albanians versus the reporting on Zimbabwe. Very little of what goes in Africa gets much mainstream media attention here, it doesn't have anything to do with some "PC" media code.

As the term "ethnic cleansing" is usually used, it would suggest the wholesale killing or displacement of a population because of their ethnicity. For example, the slaughter of 800,000 or more Tutsis in Rwanda. What is happening in Zimbabwe, where many white landowners are attempting to combat Mugabe legally (though some have been killed, it is true), is something different. The white landowners are a very, very small minority in that country. I'd say it's similar, but quite different. Nonetheless, it's already a disaster.

I see your point, thanks for the further explanation. I agree that the slaughter elsewhere in Africa is much worse. Although I think it might be accurately said that this is being done in the "spirit" of ethnic cleansing since the goal of Mugabe is to displace white farmers from their land. At any rate, it's racial at its base.

The white landowners are a very, very small minority in that country.

You'd never know it to hear it from Zimbabwe - according to Mugabe and supporters, those evil white farmers own a disproportionate amount of the land and must be expunged. It is certainly a disaster, and it's amazing to me that it hasn't gotten a bit of mainstream news coverage.

Well, they DO own a disproportionate amount of the land. But they also represent a disproportionate number of the people who know what to do with that land. That's a big part of the disaster.

Perhaps they need to produce a "Farming for Dummies" book.

It's called looting, pillaging, and raping. It could result in genocide.

OK, I admit I haven't been watching much tv news lately, never watch local channels, usually watch Fox News, catch a minute or two of CNN here and there (usually against my better judgement!), so what have I missed? By mainstream I meant tv news, since I doubt that the average American digs like the average Freeper and instead relies mainly on talking head stuff. Now you've got me wondering - have I really missed a lot of exposure somewhere? I'm pretty confident in doubting that any outlets have sent anyone over there for live coverage!
