Have you ever been around a pit bull dog before or are you just making assumptions on what you've read.

I've been around a few, I avoid them whenever possible, along with ANY other breed of dog capable of overpowering and killing a person.

And as to assumptions, yes I assume that the hundreds and humdreds of news stories can't ALL be wrong when describing the unprovoked and often deadly attacks by breeds such as pitbull. I assume that the attacks actually happened and children are DEAD. It happened near Chicago fairly recently, two pits jumped the fence, ran into the nieghbor's yard and brutally mauled a 7 yr old child to death. Ripped his throat out and mangled his head and face so badly that he no longer looked like a person. I'm sure it was all hype. I'm sure I'm just a dupe of the media hysteria.

Calm down T.J. i'm not trying to pick a fight with you, all i'm saying is that I believe you have probably read about a few incidents & I don't doubt that they were horrible & possibly fatal. But I do not believe for a minute that you can honestly tell me that you have read hundreds of articles about pit-bull attacks. I live in Georgia where the English bull dog (UGA's mascot) & Pit bull dogs are abundant, I haven't read more than 2 or 3 attacks in the U.S. period much less Georgia. By the way I don't think that people in Urban areas should have these dogs because of the possiblity of what happened to the Child there in Chicago. But that doesn't mean that there are those of us responsible enough to keep our dogs in check, in my case a bad dog regardless of the breed would be shot the first time it snapped at me or my family.

Well you are missing out on some very fine dogs, Newfoundlands are extremely sweet natured dogs and they are very big too. Almost as nice are St B's, and bull mastifs.

Pit bulls are wonderful dogs if the are well breed (good breeder that is not breeding for aggression) and raised as a family pet. The problem with bits is that too many breeders are breeding for aggression and to many buyers are buying pits as guard/protection dogs. The end result is the breed is ruined. Too bad cause pit bulls really are good dogs. Oh well
