It's to bad that the American people can't realize that their insatiable and unnecessary need to everything that the military and it officials are doing is probably the number one cause for that.

Everytime a mission is compromised and we lose one of our men or women because of it, the American public should not blame the press for it, but themselves. We are the ones asking for the information, demanding information about what they are doing. We say protect our servicemen and women, yet we are doing more to harm them than any enemy can.

We demand access to secret, confidential or priviledged material because we insist that it is our right to know. When will Americans learn...

I want to know nothing that will put one service person in harms way. I don't need to know. We here on the home front have a job to do and we need to concentrate on it. Thats to keep America safe, protect, preserve and defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, make sure that our lawmakers toe the line so that when our service people come home they will find that we have kept our part of the bargain and kept America safe.

If that is what they have to do to accomplish the mission, then bravo to them.

"... I notice our men are wearing beards. Is this new policy?"

Delta Force. They're supposed to be a "secret" element of the US Army Special Forces. Technically, they get paychecks from the State Department.

The beards probably also serve to obscure their identity back home in America in addition to the other person who said that it's for blending in with the locals.

Those are some mighty salty characters pictured here. Pity the poor fools' that cross them.

Great job on the compilation. I can tell by your ending picture that you are NOT a charter member of the NEA. Keep up the good work.

Sally Soldier in the picture..

Gunrunner2: The second row of photos under 'Operation Mountain Sweep' almost looks like Sally Soldier there at the computer.

Sometimes in the bush you just don't get
to pay much attention to the personal
hygeine stuff!

Or, they may be CIA mercs!

This will probably sound ignorant...but if it wasn't for your daily picture threads about this war, I would never know (from the media) that there actually was a war going on. Thank you for your dedication in keeping us updated.

"... I notice our men are wearing beards. Is this new policy?"

Spec Ops, and SOF are allowed to grow facial hair if it improves the accomplishment of the mission. I got friends there now, and one that just got back. They've said a man without facial hair in Afganistan is regarded as lower than a woman...since these guys have extensive direct contact with the natives, they grow beards to assist in relations... there's almost no way an American can pass for Afghan at less than 50 yards... we're to beefy...(manly...we got pectorals and biceps...)

"almost" is the key word.

Looking at it, I'm not sure what it is. Could be, could be not.

Everytime a mission is compromised and we lose one of our men or women because of it, the American public should not blame the press for it, but themselves.

There are some D.C. level operational security compromises for which press and public may be at fault, but that's not what's causing the problem at the tactical level in Afghanistan. It's more likely to be our gallant warlord allies blabbing, and the fact that our guys are compelled to give some advance notification of their ops to the Karzai government to keep civilian casualties down. Incidentally, don't blame the public just because the leftist news wimps say that "the public wants/needs to know". It wouldn't be the first time that the press took it upon themselves to determine what the "people" want, or what's good for America.
