For the record I also have no problem with homeschooling as long as the parent is capable.

If the homeschooling parent is formally trained in educational techniques and certified by a regulatory agency, I have no problem either. When mothers with a GED insist on homeschooling their kids I get pretty worked up.

Interesting...the mothers with high school diplomas vs mothers with graduate degrees have no difference in how their children do on national tests. It's still 30% higher than public school peers on average.

Yeah, and I get pretty worked up about Lite-thinkers who haven't quite figured out that learning is a whole lot more than ABC's and knowing what 2 + 2 equals. I'll put my 20 year old daughter up against anyone you can come up with. She was taught by a mother who hated high school and barely made it out. The difference....my wife loves children and in the cradle of that love was born a daughter whose love for learning was nurtured and guided. By the time our daughter was in junior high, she was directing her own learning. By the time she was in her late teens, she no longer required us to teach her. She had gone beyond us.

It's none of your business.

Geez, that's a little statist, even for me.

I do agree, that the child has a basic right to get educated, but I would favor measuring the Childs progress, as opposed to the parents credentials....

Well, you shouldn't. If you do some research (I'll provide links to some, if you'd like), you'll find that the education of the parent has nothing at all to do with the success of the homeschool. It's pretty obvious that all the training that public school teachers have hasn't given the nation's children quality education.

I'm sorry I get you worked up, but did you for a moment care to remember that a GED is supposed to represent that you have a grasp of the basic body of knowledge required to graduate from 12th grade anyway? That body of knowledge aquired in the same public schools you seem to think so highly of?
I'm sorry, but some of us have had life circumstances that forced us to seek our GED instead of formerly finishing our "required" schooling. The GED represents that despite when we left, we had already emassed the body of knowledge required for graduation. Funny thing is, it was enough for the 2 year college I went too and later for the university I was accepted at with scholarship. I'm sorry if it doesn't measure up on your snob-o-meter, but the reality is that my children are doing just fine and the numbers in regards to testing are against your assumed idea that a GED is unworthy or inadequate.
Thanks for the insult!
glory(who will try and go back and answer any other posts made earlier--sorry guys--soccer and all that just started and I am going to a function tonight so I can't guarantee anything!)
