Swanson and her husband had argued last week about Swansons decision to enroll the two children in school in Augusta Gene Swanson wanted his wife to continue to home school the kids on the ranch while she wanted them to attend public school.Apparently, she's a homeschooler who didn't want to be a homeschooler.
Sadly, these crimes happen very often. But, when the parents of public school students murder their children, we never hear: "A public schooler murdered her children." Yet, I'd almost bet that happens much more often. Now, we're going to hear again how homeschooling "is too stressful for parents to handle", and the anti-homeschool people like the NEA will use this tragic story, too, against us.

I think, in this case, the homeschooling issue was important, whereas, in other cases, the method of schooling was not an issue.

Did I misunderstand something, did she not get what she wanted?
Gene Swanson wanted his wife to continue to home school the kids on the ranch while she wanted them to attend public school. The children attended their first classes at school in Augusta last week.

Not everyone is cut out to be a teacher or a homeschooler. That is a simple fact.
For some parents, homeschooling is too stressful to handle, just as for some people, teaching in a school of whatever kind (public, private, etc.) is also too stressful of a job. People do not realize the amount of stress involved in this responsibility of teaching, no matter where the location.
If the father was so intent on homeschooling, perhaps there was another way this could have been achieved rather than try to make his unwilling wife believe she could do it when she had already concluded she could not. Maybe the father could have homeschooled. In some wealthy communities, the parent will hire a certified teacher or tutor to teach in the home. But, in any event, teaching is not as easy as it appears to some people.
This is a tragedy. It is not that homeschooling is wrong, but that attempting to force anyone to homeschool who does not want to is not the way to go. Not every parent wants this responsibility, believe it or not. Just as: not everyone wants to be a teacher.
And, for those who misunderstand me: I am very much in favor of homeschooling FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO DO IT.

No, she was not a home schooler, she was a former homeschooler. Her kids were currently enrolled in the public school, against her husband's wishes. Sounds to me like a controlling husband, a lunatic wife and the kids are the victim of both.

Correlation and causation are not the same thing. But what the hell, any stick to beat the competitors to the government children's penitentiaries will do.
