Hillary Used 'Etiquette Squads' to Bust Up Protests

Book: Hillary Used 'Etiquette Squads' to Bust Up Protests

A former advance man for New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has confessed that her campaign used "etiquette squads" to drive hecklers away at rallies, raising new questions about a March 2000 incident where several reporters were assaulted while trying to cover then-candidate Clinton as crowds booed her during the St. Patrick's Day parade.

Patrick Halley's new book, "On the Road with Hillary," is a largely favorable portrait of the White House hopeful, seen through the eyes of the man whose job from 1992 to 2000 was to make sure Mrs. Clinton was viewed in the best light possible.

That meant that the Boston native was in charge of picking the right TV-friendly settings, the right props and the right photo-ops, according to an account of his book in Sunday's Boston Herald, which also noted:

"Things usually didn't get that dramatic for Halley, though he did help set up so-called 'etiquette squads' to help drive disrupters away from rallies."

During her 2000 bid for the Senate, Mrs. Clinton's campaign became notorious for the heavy-handed way it kept her shielded from reporters and protesters alike.

One particularly ugly altercation took place as she marched in New York City's St. Patrick's Day parade, where she was greeted by block after block of booing throngs.

As Mrs. Clinton pushed through the heckling crowd surrounded by her security and a phalanx of reporters, suddenly violence erupted. The scene was described during a live WABC radio report by Metro Network News reporter Glenn Schuck, who assumed that Secret Service were responsible for the thug-like tactics:

"Secret Service agents literally are pushing press to the ground. They just lost their minds, in my opinion," he told WABC's Sean Hannity.

"I mean they just started pushing and shoving; female camera people five feet tall were getting thrown to the ground, cameras flying. Myself, I was grabbed by the shoulder, I was thrown back over. I think somebody from Channel 11 landed on my back. From that point it really didn't get any better." (See: Hillary's Secret Service Agents Rough Up Reporters as St. Pat's Crowd Boos)

A few days later, a caller to WOR Radio's Bob Grant Show reported that she and her family were also accosted by Clinton's protest-busters along the parade route.

"Maureen" said that after her family had joined the crowd in jeering Mrs. Clinton, "they were surrounded by men in trench coats with radios." They told Maureen that since Mrs. Clinton was first lady that they "did not have the right" to heckle, she told Grant. "We think you should stop this now," the Clinton handlers ordered.

Were these incidents - and dozens of other similarly heavy-handed encounters with Hillary's handlers - the work of not the Secret Servicebut instead Clinton's protest-busting "etiquette squads"?

Author Halley could not be reached by press time to respond to that question.

Winnie Mandela?

Or Her Highness Grace Mugabe, who just personally (along with an armed escort of "war veteran" thugs) chucked an old white couple into the street so she could take the farm they've worked on all their lives for her own dacha, 30 minutes north of Harare.

Hitlery's the same type.

Buy a trench coat, sunglasses, a pass pin in your label and a radio earphone in your ear... go with 10 people so dressed, who is going to question you?

This atrocity is even more disgusting for those who were there and may have recalled what blubba's real SS force did to verbal dissenters, such as hauling them off to the slammer or having them investigated by the IRS.

My God, America, wake up - this is only an olive on the hors d'oeuvres tray for what Mrs. Clinton will dish up if you keep letting her get "elected."

JH2, I didn't check the other pages to see if you'd pinged anyone to this - if not, would you do so?

The good news is that, on this thread at least, it is unanimous that Mrs. Clinton (who kissed Mrs. Arafat, btw) is unpopular.

Compare this to our opinions on other figures. We have debates on whether Bush is doing a good job. Ashcroft gets raves and boos. Lott has his defenders. Gore even gets a compliment here and there. But Mrs. Clinton (who had seven career employees fired at the Travel Office so she could replace them with her people) is universally disliked.

The bad news is she was probably equally unpopular back in 2000 and still got elected.

...she gained her senate seat through the typical Democrat vote fraud machine.

I have always maintained this. You know her people had to be ferrying junkies and winos all over NY City to vote multiple times for Hitlery.

They told Maureen that since Mrs. Clinton was first lady that they "did not have the right" to heckle, she told Grant.

Hmmm. This reminds me of the time Lady Macbeth was on the Letterman show. Before the taping, one of the show's staffers told the audience that they had to be on their best behavior, and that they really shouldn't boo or else they'd have to explain themselves to the Secret Service. They tried to pass off that remark as a joke but I didn't laugh then and after reading this story it seems even less funny.

Etiquette Squads!!!

I thought that Hitlery called them "Brown Shirts"? I remember seeing Hitler's Mercedes Benz car at an Auto Show. It had mucho forward and reverse gears and headlights on the rear fenders so that a pursuit could be foiled by appearing to be an approaching car. Surely Hitlery could purchase this vehicle for her SS. It's perfect vehicle for running down cops!

The President should take this opportunity to demand that all US Secret Service Agents on Protective Detail be required to wear identifiable uniforms. Uniforms serve to indicate who is a legitimate officer and who is not. It is the fact that the Secret Service is not required to wear uniforms that makes this kind of abuse possible. It would be against the law for Hillary!'s thugs to wear a USSS uniform, but any ol' goon can go down and buy a cheap dark suit and stick a radio in their ear.

GWB has the authority and opportunity to put an end to this hogwash once and for all. An Executive Order, and Hillary!'s good squad is out of business.

Bump.

I've been thinking about this a lot today after reading Ben Shapiro's column in Townhall.com: http://www.townhall.com/columnists/benshapiro/bs20020823.shtml

I don't think the Russians are particularly out to get us these days. I think they want to get back in the game and are looking for a way to get some chips. More power to them. But I've been thinking about the part where they're acting like the nimble capitalists and we the bloated socialists and it is making me sick. Did we defeat them in the cold war for this? To win the war and lose the peace? Why must we go through all this? Does anyone realize how amusing this politically correct society must be to them? They've been through it. They know how the story turns out. Political Correctness was correctly known as Stalinist Political Correctness.

And that's why this thread is so disturbing. Because we haven't quite gotten to the point of the death squads and the gulags yet... or have we? Whe we call things by different names and put a rock-n-roll american spin on them they seem different from what the old soviet union used to do but suddenly I feel like our world is not so very far from what theirs must have been like. Certainly we're fatter... that's made it easier for big brother to slip the shackles on. But we've gone so far down the road I despair of turning back until we've experienced the blood and the death, and the anguish that the Soviet Union, Vietnam, Korea, Cambodia and all the other examples of this horrendous experiment in lies and human slavery experienced.

As far as I am concerned DEMOCRAT PARTY = COMMUNIST PARTY

Have a nice day :)
