Glad you two have worked things out.

Moderating is a thankless (well mostly :) but necessary job when you have such a huge number of free thinkers (and the dregs that come out the of the woodwork to spoil things when so many others are having a good time) across the political spectrum.

It is good that we are trying to walk the walk of representative democracy (i.e. a Republic), rather than put the whole burden of governing FReeperdom on JimRob's shoulders alone (the guy has to sleep sometime :). I've often thought that if we can't manage to govern ourselves effectively and fairly, what business do we have in complaining about how our representatives govern us?

All in all FR has always been a more open and forgiving, yet civil forum for political discourse than any leftist (or media sponsored) bulletin board.

Our principles are not to be compromised, but we should always be open to looking at better ways to defend those principles. Let the improved process lead us into a greater FR.

Godspeed to the moderators in their never-ending quest to sniff out paid scumbag Democrat operatives as well as the rogue disruptors who occasionally pop over from Scumbag Underground. These animals work like narcs, slowly worming their way into the community's confidence and then slowly chipping away like Andy Dufresne by attempting to place seeds of doubt in the minds of as many posters and lurkers as possible, especially the impatient and overzealous "libertarian" crew. Their most common ploy is to pose as rock-ribbed conservatives who are disappointed by Bush and other Republicans who, they claim, have betrayed their conservative base, and have turned out to be nothing but liberals who are pushing a Democrat agenda, etc.

These Democrat-narcs do not try to entice people to vote for their scumbags. They know that won't happen here. No, their singular goal is to prevent as many Republican votes as possible.

So I hope that the essence of "moderating" on this forum includes the awareness that because Free Republic represents a serious political problem for the rats, the rats will do anything to neutralize its impact. Anything.

Everytime I've had a post yanked, the AM sent me a Private Mail saying "Cool the personal attacks", "Language was too coarse" or "Knock off the war with so and so" or something to that extent.

If my pal gets '86'ed from a pub for reasons I think are unjustified, I'm not going to go back there every night and whine incessantly to staff and patrons about the injustice and bias of the action and venue. They'd boot me too, that's disruptive to others, and fundamentally disrespectful of their prerogatives. I'd join my pal at a different bar with a more just approach. This forum is more tolerant of cantankerous characters, impolite discourse and unpopular viewpoints than any other I've seen. Left wing political operators, not here to debate with the objective of restoring a Constitutionally dedicated government, are the only folks who get an immediate hook in my observations over the years. You've got to be a real jackass, nutcase, demonstrated fraud or agent provacoteur to get bounced from here. Even then, you get a first and probably a second warning.
