CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) -- Far from the final frontier, "Star Trek" fans gravitated to a political fund-raiser, drawn by the prospect of seeing no less than two Star Fleet captains.
Tim Hagan, a Democrat running for governor against a Republican incumbent with the Taft family political lineage and 20 times as much money, isn't shy about using his Hollywood connection.
Hagan's wife is actress Kate Mulgrew, who commands a loyal following from her days as Capt. Kathryn Janeway on "Star Trek: Voyager."
And on Saturday, a fund-raiser for Hagan's campaign featured Mulgrew along with several of her fellow cast members, including Tim Russ (Vulcan security chief Tuvok) and Garrett Wang (Ensign Harry Kim).
The crew of Voyager was joined by William Shatner, Capt. James T. Kirk of the Enterprise on the original "Star Trek."
Is this any way to run a campaign for governor in the nation's seventh-largest state?

Thanks for the bump.
With a Senator like Mike Dewine and Governor like Bob Taft, sometimes I think that the Ohio Republican Party must be cast a way on Gilligans Island. I dont care much for George Voynovich either.
With so called Republican Party leadership like this bunch, were all pretty much lost. We may as well have Democrats in office.
I've said that before...many times. But I believe things could be a lot worse with Dems (big tax increase), of course I'd prefer things to be a lot better.
With that said, our Senators are making it tough for me to vote for them but I probably would given the national implications, but the governor has made it impossible for me to vote for him.
Bite your tongue, Mr. Pontiac!
BTW ... I really like the new one except for the engineer character.
What do you mean? Has she stopped wearing her wonderbra?? Say it ain't so! (Sometimes I'm just bad...but Mrs. Pablo loves me anyway).
I see Dewine as a McCaine wannabe. And McCain votes DemocRat as often as Republican. I did not vote for Dewine the last time and I wont vote for him the next time he is up for reelection.
Voinovich is not as bad. But he still votes for a great many socialist bills that I find repugnant to the Constitution and conservative principles. But on the whole he is better than a true Dimocrat.
I think the Republicans in this state are afraid to run true conservatives for office.
I believe they look at the past office holders in this state (Ultra-liberals Glenn and Metzenbaum) and believe true conservative Republicans can not get elected.
This why I believe they persuaded Dewines primary opponent (I cant remember his name) to run for secretary of state when Dewine initially ran for the Senate. By the way isnt Metzenbaum Dewines father-in-law.
NO. That was Joel Hyatt the man Dewine defeated. I normally don't defend DeRino but when it comes to the Senate...I'd vote for devil if he was an R.....to get Leahy from heading the Judiciary comitee.
Take back the Senate...no matter what (I'd bet we will... Go Coleman, Go Thune, Go Forester...my 3 most likely pickups)
They ain't got that zing if she ain't wearing that thing. Badda-bing!
Let's all vote for the same .067% party if it does well (defined as over 1%) maybe a little message is sent to the state Party.
