Orlando Sentinel Abolishes Marriage Announcements Section

A leading Orlando gay activist applauds a new policy adopted by the Orlando Sentinel. Debbie Simmons says the paper will start listing gay partnerships in what will no longer be the marriage announcements page.

"It's Celebration Pages now, that's what they're going to call it. They're going to list heterosexual and homosexual unions together in the same section of the paper."

Simmons who is also pushing for inclusion of sexual preference in the city's anti discrimination ordinance, says the new policy doesn't dilute the status of heterosexual marriage.

"To be recognized in the newspaper so that they could let their friends and family know that they are making a commitment to one another. I hardly think that that's a smack in the face to anybody."

Recently the New York Times did the same thing and more newspapers are expected to follow the lead.

Newspapers are the losers. We've had a huge improvement in the El Paso Times. The idiots finally stopped putting wedding announcements, birthday announcements and anniversary announcements on the obituary page. LOL As far as Orlando goes...what the heck, we discovered that DisneyWorld belongs to the gay community so we don't take kids there like we once did. I believe newspaper circulation is down and attendance is down for Disney too.

You are absolutely correct! I cancelled my subscription to my local mullet wrapper in favor of the Sentinel during the Clinton impeachment saga because the Sentinel (at least) called for Clinton to resign (again, would that have happened without Charley Reese?) and my local paper did not.

Cancel your subscriptions. There's no need for a newspaper anymore anyway, especially if it's turned into a slightly absorbent vehicle for legitimization of the homosexual agenda. In a few years, we'll hear wailing about declining readership and the demise of another great American institution. Oddly enough, they'll be able to trace their decline back to their decision to promote an abhorrent value set.

My guess is that they'll bemoan the decayed state of literacy, or the siren song of video games, or the flashy allure of cable tv, or engage in some other form of denial. Even when slapped in the face with the facts, they will refuse to admit that their commitment to a repulsive ideology has doomed them.

Years ago, my towns paper decided to run a week long, front page series on the homosexual "community" here. Very pro homo and politically correct.

I called the paper and told them what I thought of the series, cancelled my subscription, and haevn't read it since except for an occasional glance through the classifieds if I find them laying around in a McDonalds for free.

My town has just about doubled in size since then. The paper is still about the same size as then. Maybe I wasn't the only one.

A good compromise would be a adding a new section to the paper called "Fruits". Those announcements can go there, with the KY Jelly ads.

Just cancelled my folks subscription. They're in their 80's and probably won't notice the difference but just enjoyed the personal satisfaction!

I live here. I don't subscribe to it, I don't read it (except maybe portions on line), Never will subscribe to it. Especially now.
