President Bush will appear at two private fund-raising events for California gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon today, but he will not share the stage with the aspiring politician when he addresses Hispanic community leaders in Santa Ana, just south of Los Angeles.

Because court observers were completely unsurprised about the verdict. ANYONE and EVERYONE saw it coming.

THAT, my friend is a complete falsehood. Every lawyer associated with the case including the plaintiffs was completely FLOORED.

If you followed the case or studied the evidence you would be surprised too. Unfortunately you are relating anecdotes from media stories and so-called political experts who teach at the local JC and are quoted on the radio.

This jury was waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy out of line and you will learn that in a few weeks. I can give you an address to mail your opology to Bill Simon personally if you like.

Dan, I think Bush was probably more upset that Simon didn't tell Bush about the suit...

Why do you say that Bush wasn't told about the lawsuit?

Wow. There are lawyers who believe in certainties in the courtroom? Looks like Simon's lawyers, if they subscribed to that idea, were way overpriced (or Simon didn't spend enough money on them), because they were bigtime idiots.

If you followed the case or studied the evidence you would be surprised too.

The one unforgivable deed is to be surprised at any jury verdict.

Unfortunately you are relating anecdotes from media stories and so-called political experts who teach at the local JC and are quoted on the radio.

Nope, I'm relying on relatives who were watching the case. Maybe they're smarter than lawyers when it comes to reading the tea leaves. BTW, the relatives are bigtime Simon supporters. They think that some of the folks at Simon & Sons got way out in front of their bosses--a not unknown phenomenon in the venture capital business.

And you're telling me that ol' Bill couldn't be bothered to pass a word to his staff: "Hey, my family's company is getting sued, and the jury's deliberating. We think we'll win, but we'd better have a contingency plan just in case."

Sorry, but Simon's an idiot.

Because of the supposed corporate scandal mess... Although I don't think criticism of Bush and his supposed lack of support of Simon is fair considering the fact that Bush has been to more fundraisers, five, for Simon than any other candidate anywhere else this election year.

Sorry, but you are the idiot if you keep spouting BS that you know nothing about. If you knew anything about this case and how every single allegation by the plaintiff was patently false by a wide, wide documentable margin then you wouldn't be talking like this. The case was NOT a secret.

Why didn't McDonalds plan for the $10 Million verdict for an idiot spilling hot coffee on herself? Because it was a stupid, unrealistic verdict, that was eventually tossed out. Same here.

Simon will be governor next year, and you will still be working as a campaign consultant via bulletin boards. Campaign startegists make millions you know. You should go into the business since you know so much. I'm sure people would line up to hire you for your Monday-morning post-facto advice.

BTW, you'd think we'd've learned something from Jerry BROWN and GRAY Davis--do not elect someone to the office of governor if the guy has a color (and a drab color at that) in his name :o)

No kidding. It least we got it right in 1994 when the voters rejected Kathleen Brown or whatever her name was for Governor. I can hardly wait to see which color of the spectrum the Democraps run against us in 2006. Unfortuantely, I think it is going to be brown again--Lt Gov. Cruz Bustamante or perhaps I should say "Red" as in Marxist.

So, this is nothing new. A lot of people think republicans stand for people like reagan. That is completely false. Reagan was an aberration. The typical republican leader has contempt for reagan's type of politics, that is reality.

Sad but true.

Simon will be governor next year

Only Davis is, to use the Kingfish's memorable quote, found in bed with a dead girl or a live boy.

And, given that this IS California, The Altered State, the latter may not be enough for Davis to lose the election.

Except to the GOP, who gave local radio a bunch of great quotes (uh, er, uh, gosh, when did Simon get sued?).

Why didn't McDonalds plan for the $10 Million verdict for an idiot spilling hot coffee on herself? Because it was a stupid, unrealistic verdict, that was eventually tossed out. Same here.

And, even if you are correct (and the evidence is in question), you prove my point: juries do, ON OCCASION, submit stupid and unrealistic verdicts. A campaign consultant with the good sense that God gave a crabapple would have had a contingency plan ready for an unfavorable verdict. The state GOP knew nothing about the case.

Who was at fault? The state GOP or Simon?

I know it is hard for many to believe but Simon is an incompetent bozo - not a viable candidate. If he weren’t a bozo he would not have allowed the fraud trial to occur during his campaign (can Simon spell continuance?) Maybe we republicans in California should require some elected public office and campaign experience from our candidates for state and national offices.

Now there's a bitter Riordan supporter if I ever heard one. Way to rally 'round the flag, Chuck!

But I don't see any conservatives on my public access cable TV channel.

Ummm, and who generally controls access to these channels? That could be one point. The other point is the Fairfax VA GOP has a cable channel here they use to get out their message.

And Simon has used talk radio and the Internet EXTENSIVELY.

Simon didn't give ANY information on the case to the GOP, and Simon had, IMNHO, a duty to disclose.

He should've asked for a continuance until after the election--the judge would have granted it, because district court judges dislike political messes in their courtrooms.

Good points, the last poll numbers show the real truth of the election here.

And what exactly are those latest poll numbers? And what exactly did you draw from them? I'd love to hear this fairy tale.

I can't believe the state GOP had no way of knowing it was happening... I believe its better its over now... If he actually was elected he'd be trying to have a trial while serving as Governor... That'd be worse...
