country, take a brief moment of your day to thank them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made

We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper Style,

in our military, who has served our great nation.

Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.

This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style.
It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.

Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place
that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.

Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they served.

This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

Because 5 of 6 ships I have been on have been amphibious ships,
or "gators".

Also, my job is navigation, or a 'gator.

I am a Chief Petty Officer and just went
over 20 years service this March.

My ships have been :
USS CROMMELIN (FFG-37) plankowner
USS BRISTOL COUNTY (LST-1198)
USS ST LOUIS (LKA-116)
USS SAN BERNARDINO (LST-1189) decomm crew
USS DUBUQUE (LPD-8)
USS JUNEAU (LPD-10)

I have been stationed in Japan since 1990.
I am currently on shore duty near Tokyo,Japan/

Prior to this tour all my Japan time was in Sasebo, on Kyushu.

I have been happily married for over 9 years to my lovely wife Atsuko.

We have two sons, Takezo, age 7, and Shuzo, age 5.

Although I read FR daily, I don't usually log on unless I want to
reply to a thread. But I will always get back to you (ask Snow Bunny)
sooner or later if you send something my way.

Hiya souris, nice to see ya! As soon as Sassy gets home we have to head right out for a while...gonna get her a new fridgafrater. Have to get rid of the one the ex got. Only one more item in the whole house to get rid of from the "past". Hopefully that will be gone within a year.

Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again.

I read recipes the same way I read science fiction. I get to the end and think, 'Well, THAT'S not going to happen.'

In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, and people take prozac to make it normal.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

Naaaa!

As you can tell, I've put on a few pounds since I got this burka (Can't say it "shrunk" in the wash, 'cause I've never washed it). Just toooooooooo tight to fit comfortably any more; plus, IT MAKES MY BUTT LOOK FAT!

Two rednecks, Bubba and Earl, were driving down the road drinking a couple 
of bottles of Bud. The passenger, Bubba, said, "Lookey thar up ahead, Earl, 
it's a po-lice roadblock! We're gonna get busted fer drinkin' these here 
beers!!" 

"Don't worry, Bubba," Earl said. "We'll just pull over and finish drinkin' 
these beers, peel off the label and stick it on our foreheads, and throw the 
bottles under the seat." 

"What fer?" asked Bubba. 

"Just let me do the talkin', OK?" said Earl. 

Well, they finished their beers, threw the empty bottles under the seat, and 
each put a label on their forehead.When they reached the roadblock, the 
sheriff said, "You boys been drinkin'?" 

... "No sir," Earl said. "We're on the patch."

The governors of Alabama, Georgia & Mississippi 
would like to announce that they have made a 
disturbing discovery in their states. 
Apparently, a small number of terrorists have 
become romantically involved with the locals. 
The result was not pretty, and we now have the 
sad task of reporting a new sector of the human 
race: ISLAMABUBBAS. 

So far, only a smattering of actual births has 
been reported, and we are hard at work trying
