Hmmm. Could be. I am on record predicting a January offensive. In part because of logistics and in part because I expected that GW would have needed to go through some sort of coalition building exersize, first with the US Congress and then with our most important allies. This wouold have entailed the disclosure of a significant amount of intel, thus jeopardizing sources. This could have been minimized, as in the case of Afghanistan, if a few key allies agreed -- as The UK, France, and Germany finally did (to a degree) in the Afghanistan campaign. Going though a more elaborate presentation of the evidence, and acceptance by the Congress and others, could take some time, perhaps as much as 6-12 months. Therefore, for me, the prospect of a fall 2002 campaign is most surprising, but not impossible. My bet is still on psyops through November/December, and the hammer falls in January.
I recall a promise from Bush that there will be no "October surprise". That would seem to make it either this September or Jan/Feb of next year.
I like Hack. But he also said (in a radio interview of November 2001, KSFO San Francisco) that we would invade Iraq by Christmas 2001! Methinks that he sometimes speaks his heart instead of what he thinks/knows.
Bush has been consistently addressing all the issues you say he has done "nothing" about. Bush means to effect a long-term, fundamental change in the balance of power in the ME, and he is going to do it, too. However, it is obviously nothing that can be accomplished in a few short months. For one thing, a substantial re-arming of our military forces is being done, and that takes time.
Bush's ME foreign policy will require a long-term effort, and it has already started with the events in Afghanistan. He has told us many times, in many speeches, that it will be a long haul. You are a tiresome, Bush basher.

You are wrong about that. You need to read "Why Bad Things Happen to Good People" written by a Rabbi some years ago. God does let bad things happen mostly because he wants us to work things out for ourselves. "Our ways are not God's ways.

That Sharon would cancel an important visit, scheduled for early September, to an important segment of American Jewry during a period in which the Intifada is continuing should set off alarm bells all over the Middle East.
Good take. I have been thinking that a January strike, after some further coalition building, was the plan. But I've been starting to change my mind. Another point: What has VP Cheney been doing for the past few months? Been pretty low key. Perhaps he is seriously occupied. Could be you are right about the fall. God be with us and our brave military.
This is not something that you mosey into. This is serious stuff, and it will cost a lot of lives.
To me, the Saudis have harbored the terrorists, but for some reason we're going after Saddam first. I'll give you that he is not a nice guy. However, there has to be clear, observable evidence.
I wonder why so many of you think that it is okay for the U.S to invade another country without significant knowledge. On the other hand, if the U.S. were being attacked, you would think that is terrible. Again, I don't doubt that Saddam is a bad guy. Yet, I do not want the U.S. getting dragged into a long, casualty-filled war without significant evidence.
On what do you base your assertion? Thin air?
