AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS? (a question for Freepers)
August 22nd, 2002 | Sabertooth

Posted on 08/22/2002 7:04:53 AM PDT by Sabertooth

This is a vanity post, let's get that straight from the start.

Perhaps the most vain aspect of it is the conceit that it might stay on topic, but I'm going to give it a whirl.

One of the more contentious species of threads encountered on Free Republic are those dealing with the subject of America's immigration policy, particularly with regard to the Illegal Aliens currently in our country. According a range of reasonable sources, the estimates of their numbers here currently here range from six to thirteen million. Whatever the actual count, there are quite a few people now in violation of American immigration law.

One subtopic that inevitably arises is the question of Amnesty:

Should all or some portion of the Illegal Aliens be granted an Amnesty and be thereby allowed to change their status and acquire legal residence in the United States?

That's the question I'd like to put forward to the members of Free Republic.

Almost as inevitably on threads dealing with this subject, flame wars erupt. It's not my purpose to instigate another round of that, they're rather predictable. So I'd like to ask that your comments, if you're inclined to share them, focus on the big picture of American immigration policy, with particular attention to the subject of Amnesty. I'm not interested in the stock and gratuitous divisiveness of race-baiting or referring to the President as "Jorge," or anything of that nature from any quarter. It achieves nothing, it's sulphurous methane heat with no light shed.

I'd also like to avoid ad hominem ambushes. I'm genuinely interested in learning the collective feelings of Free Republic members on this subject. If you're gonna post, I'd like to ask that you ante up with your opinion on the question at hand before engaging the discussion with others. No taking potshots from the obscurity of the sidelines. I'll post my opinion below at #1.

Fair enough?

So, once again, here's the question:

Should all or some portion of the Illegal Aliens be granted an Amnesty and be thereby allowed to change their status and acquire legal residence in the United States?

Sometimes it takes more than a sentaence or two to address problems that you seem to be so concerned about.

Sorry If I missed your point, it's just that this issue is pretty simple, not a lot of need for a 10 paragraph speech. Excuse me, but I am extended, and am tired of the endless debate of the obvious......

I have no doubt that you and him are just the bestest of friends. Hell you two are almost inseparable. What is your point?

Actually, you are wrong about me. I have no favorites here, I do not belong to any Free Repubic cliques. I am no one's groupie. I am a loner, unlike you and others.

Think I am kidding. Look no further than my ping list. You will note that I have no stinking ping list! I ping no one....

If the state didnt simply give handouts to illegals I doubt we'd have to do alot of rounding up.

Well then tell that to your state and the local LEOs that refuse to help. There is NO solution until the States get involved other than the military.

<< I oppose all Amnesties for Illegals Aliens, in any form. >>

I not only oppose all Amnesties, in any form, for all Criminal Aliens but believe that the breaching of America's borders by any individual and/or group of individuals should be classified a felony, part of the punishment for which would offer confiscation of all illegally aquired assets and immediate "voluntary" deportation at the criminal alien's expense or -- upon conviction -- a lifetime ban on reentering the United States for any purpose.

Further, children born in the United States to any criminal alien and/or criminal aliens should never be classified as American citizens and should also be subject to automatic deportation.

And finally, either knowingly and/or unknowingly offering any assistance, housing and/or employment [Etceteras] to a criminal alien should be classified felonies and subject to mandatory prison terms of a minimum one year for a first offence.

As I said, If I directed my response to you I would apologize for over-extending your capabilities. But since it wasn't.... I feel your objections to the length of my response to Sabertooth pinging me to his vanity opinion thread is not worth much consideration. To me.... you seem to be looking more for a flame war than you are a honest debate. Maybe I'm wrong... But you are the one injecting yourself into my response that was directed to sabertooth and not at you.

Good night

Illegal immigration isnt the only reason to put the military on the border right now. The constitution obligates the govt to defend the borders. The state of AZ for instance is too corrupt and silly to stop terrorists from bringing in nukes or drugs or people or anything really, yet we still have a right to protected borders.

For a few. Those with family, no crime, working, etc. They would have to go before a judge or jury and explain their case.

They would still have to pay back whatever welfare/schooling/education/etc. they had recieved in the form of fines and could not become citizens until doing so. In a since, they would be on parol. And just like parol, if they skipped town, committed crime, etc. they pay. Instead of jail, they go south. Any stuff they have here is auctioned off by the government or given to charities.

It's the best idea I can come up with.

LOL. No, I will not take that opening it is just too easy. You are OBSESSED with this issue. When not initiating your own numerous threads you are posting on threads having nothing to do with your obsession but turning the subject to it. You brook NO difference in opinion because like all ideologues, you honestly believe that you have hit on the real "root" cause of all of America's problems which I suspect means of your personal problems. No far from being a loner, you have a lot of company on these threads.

I may have a lot of company on these threads, but I can assure you, that I am a loner, one that doesn't have a clique, I don't want or desire a following. I only state what I believe......I am not a party boy, and I put my country before any political party......

I am not arguing with you. I have stated repeatedly that to really solve the illegal alien problem it must be left to the military to do it. Sates will not and the INS is not up to the task. However, it must be a permanent involvement because as soon as the military withdraws then the illegals will start crossing again.

Thanks for posting this question, Sabertooth, I have enjoyed reading all of them, and the fact that the flaming has been kept to a minimum is unbelieveable.
Even tho some do not agree their answers have been interesting and worth reading. I just skip the flaming posts, keeps the BP down.

I wonder if people realalize that it is'nt only people from Mexico that have entered illegally, they are from countries all over the world. Lots from Korea, China, Viet Nam, Cambodia, South American countries, middle eastern nations and the list goes on. If there is an ammensty, all of these come under the same ammensty.

No to ammensty

>>> It is not practical, in your mind, because you do not want it to be solved. You are the essence of an open borders, free-trading globalist hack.

It's only not practical because you DON'T want the problem to be fixed. Hey, you may be benefitting from the invasion.
<<<<

I have presented what I see as a solution to this problem. At the very least, it is the beginning of a solution. I personally gain nothing from the flow of illegal immigration. That is, nothing except cheaper hotels, cheaper produce, etc... (the same thing you gain, FWIW).

I am very much in favor of allowing hard working illegals the oppurtunity to continue doing that in our country. I am in favor of completely cutting off those who wish to live of our country dole. If you think (incorrectly, IMO) that that constitutes the majority of illegals in our country, then you might be surprised that I agree that they all should be deported.

But it simply isn't true. A large number of illegals in our country aren't interested in a welfare check.

FWIW, this open-borders, globalist hack voted for Proposition 187.

By the way, what is your "solution" to the problem? Put a bullet in the head of all people with a Hispanic surname? Institute a secret police to investigate everyone who responds "De Nada" when someone says Thank You? Give me a break.

Do these illegals ever seem anti-American, or do they ever act like you are taking away their "rights"? Do they believe that the southwest belongs to them?

I have never encountered any illegal alien that was anti-American or entertained the notion of Aztlan. In my experience, these people only live in the moment. I think that being anti-American would require more thoughts processes than they are prepared to engage in.

My post wasn't " vindictive ", in any way, shape , manner, or form. It was posted in a state of high dugeon !

Your post, was as, usual, another example of, your insane overuse of commas, and was vindictive in several shapes, as well as , in its basic form, mainly because, it was posted in a state of drunkeness., , , ,hic !

Allowing enemy operatives to come and go as they please is definitely giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

Based on your posts here over the past year, you've made it clear you're not much of a friend of America. I would be happy to trade you for 2 or 3 hard working immigrants. This country would indeed be a better place.

"Next they'll be dragging in the experiences of their sister's cat's grandmother."

I kid you not. There's a faction here on FR that will resort to any contrivance to justify Bush's open borders nonsense.

I came onto that thread late and had to read 10 posts about the opinions of some guy working in a mission in Las Vegas as if it had the weight and credibility of a scientific, national poll.

I called it the Chutch Brothers Mission Poll.

Actually, it was the same opinion 10 times. Seriously, I counted them.

Chutch is like Zogby must be wrong when they say that almost 6 out of every 10 Mexicans believe that the American Southwest belongs to Mexico and that they don't need U.S. permission to enter our country, because the U.S. stole it from Mexico.

New Zogby Poll: Mexicans Say Southwest U.S. Belongs To Them; Shouldn't Need Permission To Enter U.S.

His brother has talked to lots of illegal aliens and none of them told him that they were here to take their country back and didn't need our stinking permission to be here. Not even the winos said anything like that, I guess.

He thinks they'd be stupid enough to say that to a person that they're going to for help.

Therefore, Aztlan and Reconquista is a fringe movement and there's nothing to worry about here. There you have it. From my brother. He's the expert, because I say so. I'd trust him with my life, so should you. Nothing to see. Move along folks. That's that. Ignore those scientific polls.

And he talks like he's a big Republican Party hotshot in his state. No wonder we're in trouble.

What I was for, was that people, who, through no fault of thier own, were delayed in getting their already filed paperwork through, due to 9/11 , given a break. I happen to know of two such cases; one an immigrant from Germany, and another from an South African. Neither are ILLEGALS , both speak English, and are newlyweds ( to American girls, and NOT anything " phony " / shady either ! )and have had lived exemplary lives whilst here.

I demand you apologize for using up all the commas in existence. Put down that liter of Boodles and apologize now. Commas are free but that is no excuse for scattering them like confetti. Apologize now, or...uh...apologize.
