Autism is Linked to Child's Vaccines
http://www.vaccineclassaction.com/ ^ | Aug.21

Posted on 08/22/2002 4:07:17 AM PDT by Bad~Rodeo

On April 3, 2002 a class action lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York on behalf of three groups against the manufacturer of Thimerosal, a preservative containing mercury, and against the vaccine manufacturers that use or used Thimerosal in the manufacture and/or distribution of childhood vaccines.

Thimerosal is a preservative that was used in childhood vaccines that is approximately 50 percent mercury by weight. Mercury is one of the most toxic elements on earth and its exposure by humans has been linked to neurological, motor, sensory and autoimmune disorders, as well as behavioral dysfunction. Before the FDA recommended that Thimerosal be removed from all vaccines, American children had received 237 micrograms of mercury through vaccines alone by age two. This far exceeds current EPA ‘safe’ levels for mercury which are (one tenth) 0.1 mcg/kg. per day. On the date of birth children received 12 mcg's of mercury from the Thimerosal content in the hepatitis B vaccine which is over 30 times the safe level. The DTaP and HiB vaccines contained over 50 mcg of mercury, which is 60 times greater than the safe level. At six months the second Hep B and Polio vaccines are given, containing 62.5 mcg of mercury which is 78 times greater than safe level.

The class action is seeking compensation for three groups of plaintiffs. Plaintiffs and Plaintiff Class defined as Sub-Class One have been diagnosed with autism or neurological disorders, as well as other severe and permanent health consequences claimed to be the result of exposure to high levels of mercury contained in Thimerosal; Plaintiffs and the Plaintiff Class defined in Subclass Two claim an increased risk of developing autism, other serious neurological disorders, or other severe and permanent health consequences as a result of exposure to high levels of mercury contained in Thimerosal; Plaintiffs and the Plaintiff Class are defined in Subclass Three have claims based upon the injuries to their children as well as claims for medical monitoring of their children who have not yet developed an injury, but who must be continuously monitored due to their exposure to the high levels of mercury contained in childhood vaccines.

My son has been poked, prodded, scrutinized and analyzed beyond what I consider tolerable. It has been necessary to convince the powers that be that he's Autistic even when it's plainly obvious.

My grandson too. It took over a year to diagnose him -- a year when he missed out on programs that might have been beneficial. Our experience has been similar to yours with New Jersey -- you have to move Heaven and earth and sue to get any help at all. And much of the help my grandson received has been counter productive. His individual aides have been wonderful -- but the directors of his programs (which are non-existent in his own school district, despite Federal law) have been horrid.

He goes to school out of district where he has no rights because his own district refused to educate these children, despite a high incidence. He had a teacher for a whole year who was downright cruel to him. She then was elevated to being the director for all the programs for a second year.

Luckily, she's gone, but my grandson made no progress for two years -- just reverted. He spent his whole day at school crying every time he encountered this one particular teacher. He was fine with all the other teachers and aides, however. My daughter had to take the school district to court to get the basic educational services (speech therapy, occupational therapy) he was entitled to, which have just kicked in now. But he lost two years of precious time while the district where he was a "guest student" tried to kick him out.

Prove that the thimerosol was taken out of the vaccines.

Because the pharmacuetical companies said so....I don't think so.

In a former thread you posted a link that said that they felt they would do it when they felt like it. Show me the exact date that these vaccines removed mercury.

They didn't because it would show culpability. Something medical sociopaths are wont to do.

There is an epidemic of children who do not use speech functionally in this country. These children will grow to be adults who do not communicate. Our tax money will pay for these children's needs. This has been caused by a vaccination program which has no need to be responsible to the people. IMHO. My lawyer says that I have right to have an opinon in the USA.

"Between December 1999 and December 2000, requests for special education services for children with autism went up 25 percent."

-- Congressman Dan Burton speaking at the April, 2001 hearings on autism

That's in ONE YEAR.  And it's a lot more than that.  It's a lifetime of social services for those afflicted with this.

The taxpayers are going to have another trillion dollar problem on their hands if some honest answers aren't produced about what's causing this EPIDEMIC..

LOL. The "expert" speaks again.

Are you STILL insisting that MMR caontains mercury?

And I would say that if the compaies say the mercury is out of the vaccines, and the government concurrs, it is up to you to prove that it isn't.

Here are some interesting immunity/vaccine-related tidbits:
HIGH-GRADE MALIGNANT TUMORS COMMON IN AREAS ENDEMIC FOR MALARIA
The results of a study published in the June 10th issue of the International Journal of Cancer suggest that there is an excess frequency of high-grade malignant tumors among individuals with lifelong exposure to malaria.

Because the pharmacuetical companies said so....I don't think so.

In the same Apr, 2001 hearings I've been quoting from, the FDA rep {Dr. Midthun) said that thimerosol was (voluntarily) being taken out of newly manufactured vaccines, but that existing stocks of vaccines on manufacturers' and pharmacy shelves WERE NOT being recalled.

She offered no details as to how the FDA was going to monitor this voluntary effort by the drug companies.

Given the cozy relationship between the FDA and drug companies which has been discussed on this board many times, you can take all that for what it's worth.

If there are any further questions regarding this, I can post the entire exchange betwen Mr. Burton and Dr. Midthun. It's quite informative, but very lengthy.

Yeah same here and couple that with the fact that I have a son who is 2 1/2 and we saw a marked drop in his social and language development within weeks after he received the MMR(at 12 mos.). He has not recovered yet--still does not speak(has started babbling and here and there says a word) and hears selectively. Fortunately though he is bonded with us both and meets our eyes so hopefully he is only delayed. And, no, I'm not worried about my life with an autistic child, I'm worried about his. Hurts my heart to even think it might be something more than a delay in speech. He's such a good, sweet little boy and I want the world for him.

Yeah, you have to be VERY careful with what your kids are exposed to. Brain development isn't completed until around age 7. If these kids get anything during that time, they'd surely have some problems with development, cognitively. The good news is that because kids' brains are still growing and maturing, that often they can cover. I pray everything ends up well with your child.

You guys are so wrong it's laughable. You're obviously not physicians nor are you even calling the vaccine manufacturers to investigate the process. You're a waste of time because you post lies and have no data to support your slander.

Content and Design Attributes of Antivaccination Web Sites

Author Information  Robert M. Wolfe, MD; Lisa K. Sharp, PhD; Martin S. Lipsky, MD

Context  Individuals searching the Internet for vaccine information may find antivaccination Web sites. Few published studies have systematically evaluated these sites.

Objectives  To examine antivaccination Web site attributes and to delineate the specific claims and concerns expressed by antivaccination groups.

Design and Setting  In late 2000, using a metasearch program that incorporates 10 other search engines, we reviewed and analyzed 772 links to find 12 Web sites that promulgated antivaccination information. Analyzing links from these 12 sites yielded another 10 sites, producing a total of 22 sites for study. Using a standardized form, 2 authors (R.M.W., L.K.S.) systematically evaluated these sites based on specific content and design attributes.

Main Outcome Measures  Presence or absence of 11 Web site content attributes (antivaccination claims) and 10 Web site design attributes.

Results  The most commonly found content claims were that vaccines cause idiopathic illness (100% of sites), vaccines erode immunity (95%), adverse vaccine reactions are underreported (95%), and vaccination policy is motivated by profit (91%). The most common design attributes were the presence of links to other antivaccination sites (100%of sites), information for legally avoiding immunizations (64%), and the use of emotionally charged stories of children who had allegedly been killed or harmed by vaccines (55%).

Conclusion  Antivaccination Web sites express a range of concerns related to vaccine safety and varying levels of distrust in medicine. The sites rely heavily on emotional appeal to convey their message.

This thread is talking about the MMR vaccine. If you want to talk about all vaccines....fine. If the drug manufacturers are lying about this one...what does that tell you?

If some stranger walked up to me and stuck me with a needle, that would be assault.

Why should I trust these guys (pharma-giants)? Because they wear white coats? Give me some reason to trust them.

You still haven't answered my question. When did they take the mercury out?...and don't hide behind your sock puppet, Tom B.

That would be akin to calling cigarette companies and asking if they adjust nicotine levels, as if. L~

The increase in autism was due to wider redefinition of autism in the last ten years.

Neither the CDC, NIH, APA, or the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine (IOM) have made that kind of scientifically categorical statement.  Despite his general support for your position, even Henry Waxman hasn't made a statement that extreme, at least to my knowledge.

The IOM's Immunization Safety Committee, in their report on MMR and autism, had this to say (pg. 4):

"Published studies of trends in ASD prevalence and incidence, in fact, have been unable to resolve how much of the observed increase is real or due to other factors such as reporting bias, changes in diagnostic criteria, or better case ascertainment over time."

As I've said before, I have a big problem with the objectivity of that report, as do some scientists and members of Congress -- especially Republicans on the Burton Committee.  But I certainly wouldn't take issue with a statement as basic as the IOM's, as shown above.

Dear "Al B.",

My statement that "the increase in autism was due to wider redefinition of autism in the last ten years" was reflective of well established belief among the major pediatric academic centers in our nation. If Congressman Waxman chooses to not heed the established opinions of most major academic medical centers, then it just reflects Congressman Waxman's lack of logic and reasoning.

Regarding your insistence that MMR causes autism, please go to http://www.cispimmunize.org/fam/mmr/a_wake.html

-- bonesmccoy's scientific "criticism" of Andrew Wakefield

LMAO....sure Paul Offit would criticize Wakefield.  He's on the Merck payroll.

From the Apr 6, 2000 Burton hearings comes this exchange:

Mr. Burton. I want to thank the panel. We will now go to our questions.  Dr. Offit, you talk about collaboration, I guess, with the Merck Pharmaceutical Co.?

Dr. Offit. Yes. As I disclosed in my written report, I have been in collaboration with Merck and Company on the development of a rotavirus vaccine since 1992.

Mr. Burton. Do you do any traveling around, speaking on behalf of Merck or Merck products?

Dr. Offit. I travel and speak about vaccines, and those talks are supported by unrestricted educational grants from either pharmaceutical companies or from universities.

Mr. Burton. So they pay for your expenses and that sort of thing?

Dr. Offit. They have an interest in educating physicians about vaccines, and it is good that they do, because physicians need to be educated about vaccines.

Mr. Burton. I understand. And they produce the MMR vaccine, don't they?

Dr. Offit. Yes, they do, yes.

Mr. Burton. Thank you.

Re: above post

After that exchange between Paul Offit and Dan Burton, Dr. Offit was not invited back to subsequent hearings in 2001 and later.

Congressman Burton, with an autistic grandson, has a deep personal interest in this. He's interested in answers, not drug co. promo's.
