The Free State Project is a plan in which 20,000 or more liberty-oriented people will move to a single state of the U.S. to secure there a free society. We will accomplish this by first reforming state law, opting out of federal mandates, and finally negotiating directly with the federal government for appropriate political autonomy. We will be a community of freedom-loving individuals and families, and create a shining example of liberty for the rest of the nation and the world.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Free State Project is a new strategy for liberty in our lifetime.
We don't want to wait decades for most citizens in the U.S. to realize that the nanny state is an insult to their dignity. For those of us who already understand the debilitating effects of a government bent on reducing liberty rather than increasing it, the Free State Project aims at liberty in a single state.
What do we mean by liberty? We believe that being free and independent is a great way to live, and that government's only role should be to help individuals defend themselves from force and fraud. To quote author L. Neil Smith, we believe that "no one has the right, under any circumstances, to initiate force against another human being, or to advocate or delegate its initiation."
What can be done in a single state? A great deal. We will repeal state taxes and wasteful state government programs. We will end the collaboration between state and federal law enforcement officials in enforcing unconstitutional laws. We will repeal laws outlawing drugs and guns. We will end asset forfeiture and abuses of eminent domain. We will privatize utilities and end inefficient regulations and monopolies. Then we will negotiate directly with the federal government for more autonomy.
The state where we will move will be decided once membership has reached 5,000. We are doing extensive research on all the candidate states. The vote will be conducted according to the method of Cumulative Count, which more closely approximates the ideal of individual choice than simple majority rule.
Before joining, please be sure also to check out our FAQ and articles sections, which contain more detailed information about the Free State Project, including answers to common questions like, "What can 20000 activists do in one state?," "What is cumulative count?," and "Do you think the federal government will oppose your efforts?," along with many others.
Join the Free State Project and take part in a rapidly growing movement aimed at securing liberty in our lifetime.
We don't want your money, just your signature - and when the time comes, your willingness to carry through on your word of honor.
If you would like to participate in this exciting new venture, please carefully read our Participation Guidelines and sign the Statement of Intent. To view these documents and to join, click here .

Or will the existing population be dealt with? Here in California the Left attracted milllions of voters from other countries with welfare payments. I assure you that the existing population has been dealt with.

I'm sure you prefer a half a million or more illegal aliens taking over the state. God forbid like minded Americans having the freedom to assemble and vote. Your roots are showing.

75% of all court actions will be brought by PLAINTIFF'S, or better known as TRIAL ATTORNEYS, suing for anything and everything by the year 2005.
The Titty Enhancement Trials, the Tobacco Trials, the Burger Trials, the Tire Trials, the Air Trials, the Water Trials, the Earth Trials, the Fire Trials, the Thought Process Trials, the Toilet Paper Trials, the Toenail Clipper Trials, and last but not least, the Existance of the Constitution Trials.
Until the attorneys are taken out of congress (small "c" for a reason), by vote or by force ejected and honest businessmen are legally (or whatever it takes) put into those seats, this litigious attitude of "free money" will consume the capitalist notion of "laissez faire" (the hidden hand of the interactive free markets, NOT the government) and relegate this once great country to pure Socialism.
But obviously no one cares, so the wealthy who are not listed in the Forbes or Fortune lists will merely take their billions out of the U.S. markets, create their own, and continue on, regardless of the meaningless myriad crap of "government restrictions or regulations about import...blah, blah, blah, for in the end, all the regs will be worthless jokes in a Socialist Country.
Let's make public the stolen 400 FBI files for all to see, huh?
Is a Tabula Rasa so much to ask for with our (McCain defined) corrupt system?
Let the voter clean house, beginning with the admitted liars and prostituted corrupt bastards like McCain who have repeatedly admitted to being corrupted.
Screw McCain's parsing of the verbiage, he admits to being an accomplice to "dirty deeds", so kick his and all the others' dirty and stinkfestered asses out...

Of course not. I look it as a "free-enterprise zone" type of concept. Take a sparse county, see if the locals will go along with the experiment. But I don't think it will ever fly.
But to think of a place where all the gripes you see on FR would have some resolution. Nice to "think" about.
If I get the impression that the project's leadership is capable and wise, I may give them a dollar or two.

Sounds like a state problem to me. Texas is not too big on welfare for anyone. Ya'll may want to try it sometime.
To: Texasforever
Are you implying that if we choose to move somewhere and vote that we are *imposing* on those who would rather be government owned and stamped?

Are you implying that if we choose to move somewhere and vote that we are *imposing* on those who would rather be government owned and stamped? That is your stated goal. Such as it is. I read your little site. The loyalty oath and all. Tell me; why not recruit your little army from the state population that you are targeting?
To: Texasforever
Oh, go tweeze that forest between your eyebrows, then when we are both done with our personal grooming, perhaps we can stay on topic.=o)

Make up the spare bedroom. I'm coming home!
To: nunya bidness
You stay where you are, I have already rented out your room.
To: Jimer
Jimer, those links are wonderful, but they do the opposite of what we would hope to accomplish. We want a heavy government off our backs and out of our pockets. We don't want to join an already top-heavy welfare state.
We are reaching the point where nearly 50% of Americans don't pay anything and will vote to keep it that way until we fall just like the old Soviet. I don't prefer that past. I prefer the past we should have stuck with. States' Rights. Where are they now?

Dang I guess that post could have been read that way. Sorry. No I just meant that your Texas roots were showing and your back was up. Sorry. I meant no disrespect.

...they do the opposite...I consider them to be satire, at best.

I was just messin with you, but it's sweet of you to apologize. I'm proud of ma Texas roots and I never have to color them.=o)
To: Nix 2
Ok, let's test your plan. I guess we need to pick a state. You name one and then we can go from there and this as a framework
The Free State Project is a plan in which 20,000 or more liberty-oriented people will move to a single state of the U.S. to secure there a free society. We will accomplish this by first reforming state law, opting out of federal mandates, and finally negotiating directly with the federal government for appropriate political autonomy. To: Texasforever
So you are all for invading states to impose "liberty"? We sorta' did that to the British in the 1700's; it pissed them off too.
To: Bandolier
No we did not but why argue. I am waiting for the thread's author to come back and put his plan to debate. I assume that was his intent so why not take a shot.
