NEW YORK -- A Virginia couple accused of having sex inside St. Patrick's Cathedral to earn prizes from a pair of radio shock jocks was heckled Wednesday as they left a Manhattan courthouse.
"God is mad at you!" shouted one angry man as the pair walked silently past. "You should be ashamed of yourselves!"
Brian Florence, 37, of Quantico, Va., and Loretta Lynn Harper, 35, of Alexandria, Va., were due back in court Oct. 2 to face charges of public lewdness.

Public indecency / lewd acts, are against the law. By promoting the breaking of this law ( not to mention the fact, that the parishioners of St. Pats could NOT shut it off, dear ! ), O&A, the staion, and everyone else involved, deserve to lose their jobs and the liscence to the airwaves. Free speech was never set up, to permit anything and everything . That's where you lose the debate.
On the contrary, when Columbus came to the new world there were 25,000,000 naked native Americans that did not believe in your views until it was shoved down their throats at the point of a knife, sword or muskette. Your intolerance is what causes the loss of human liberties. Your laws are based on perversion of the world around you. So they had sex... big deal. The only people that got hurt were the people that allow this to affect their minds. People that put other people in jail because they are offended by the act of two consenting adults are evil. I don't believe anyone outside the intended witnesses saw anything. OK so they did this in a public place, but if all the witnesses were consenting, was a crime commited? Who got hurt? Show us the legal damages in dollars. Put a price on it.
Show me the error of my view. What if they were trying to create a child and were attempting to get close to God. What better place than a church? And who amongst you would deny another the right to life? Seems to me that if we want God in our lives we need to celebrate life more with the church. We need to get that homosexual sex crap out of the church and replace it with some good wholesome love-of-God heterosexual mating in the pews where it belongs. The congregation that has sex together stays together.
Obviously, you have a problem with sharing Gods gift of love in a healthy environment. The church has always sanctified sex, especially to help build armies for crusades. I say it's time to get it all out in the open which is what they did.
Just because sex offends you doesn't mean it offends me. And everyone is offended by something. If we all make laws for things that offend us then we all have violated the law and we all belong in jail. This is how you have lost your freedoms. You say the government must step in. I say they need to stay out because I believe your laws are too intrusive. I don't believe it crosses my personal line of severe offense. I don't take offense to this act even if it was committed in front of my kid. People eat, sleep, crap and have sex. Human behavior of this sort is just as easily laughed off as it is considered horrible and a sign of a destroyed civilization.
It was a stunt. Get over it.
That is just about the silliest thing I've ever read on here. This couple were having sex due to this stunt proposed. I might add that they were violating private property - as the Catholic Church owns that piece of property, not the state. Are you suggesting that the Church does not have the right to invite whom it wishes to its property and require certain standards of behaviour in places that it owns?
Next, public indecency laws are there so that there is the force of law preventing people from behaving like animals. The natives whom Columbus saw did not believe in this. They were polygamists, believed in free sex, etc. Of course most of them died by the age of 30 and lived in mud huts. Meanwhile the morals of an industrialised society gave us our present state, in which people can sit in front of computers and complain about wanting to go on an orgy like Amazonian natives.
Think about it.
Ivan
There were people, such as the custodian ( no, not a janitor, but rather , a care taker of sorts ) who not only saw, but heard them having sexual congress ( and , by-the-by, they weren't fully naked ), and called the police. It was an afront, broke the law, and yes, it offended others. Just because you don't care if your child watches strangers engage in public sexual congress, doesn't mean that you are set the norm.
Since you don't even has a tenuous grasp of factual history, allow me to teach you some. Even the people, whom Columbus came upon, when he landed on Hispanola, did NOT engage in public coitus.
As to GOD's love being carried out in HIS house, as you think it should be, HE isn't pleased by nonmarital sex. The jerks who did this, aren't married. Oh yes, here comes more of your frenzied attacks; I can just hear you now. LOL
Why you're on a Conservative web site, with your feelings about such behavior , is quite beyond me. Even before we became a nation, there were laws against this kind of stuff. There are laws against it today.
Those who voted with you, wouldn't be so keen, if it was their mother, wife, or girlfriend doing this. How about you ? Do you think that a strange couple ( who cares if it is hetero or homo ; certainly NOT you, who are soooooooo briad minded ! ) came into your home and had coitus in front of your entire family and circle of friends, whilst you ate breakfast or lunch or dinner ? Would you enjoy that ? :-)
BTW, churches are places for whorship, prayer, and communing with GOD ... NOT whorehouses, lovenests, nor bagnios.
Name one place in any Catholic teaching that open fornication in the middle of a church is somehow OK. Name one Catholic writer who has said open sex in the pews of a church is somehow a "religious" experience. Name one Papal edict to the same.
You can't. And just as it is considered rude to speak up in the middle of a service when the priest is talking, and the talker would ushered out, similarly the Church has the right, and indeed the obligation to deal with people who choose to be even more explicitly badly behaved.
Where is the compassion? Where is the love and understanding? Where is the tolerance.
Where is yours for the other people who would be going into church? Where is yours for say, the family coming into the church with their young children and being exposed to this kind of ridiculous stunt?
You betray your God again and your hypocrisy shows. A true person of God would not have even recognized the behavior as a sin. God didn't make it a sin, people did voluntarily. They chose to create evil where none exists
Many religious prohibitions have their basis in basic hygiene. It is not a great idea to fornicate with a great number of partners, as the rise of STDs has shown. And indeed God did make this particular act a sin - "Honour thy father and mother". As God is the ultimate Father, having sex in his Church in such a manner was in no way honouring Him.
Try a paradigm shift of view. Try and get your hate out for others
I am not expressing hate towards you. More than anything, it's bemusement. It's rare when you see someone assert that God's love is expressed in something so base as a puerile stunt in a church, rather than His saving us all from eternal damnation.
Ivan
A perfect example of religious hypocrisy. Notice the desire to inflict pain on another. Observe the denial that other people have the right to chose their own path and destiny. And as for coming over and having coitus in front of my entire family... I'll make up rating cards and we can give points for your skills in transitioning from one phase to the next as you seek completion of your act.
Sounds like good fun to me! It's a date.
I'm having fun and you're angry. Which one of us has the healthier view?
You would be ill-advised to make sport out of insulting of my good friend nopardons.
Ivan
OTOH, I'm sitting here, wondering why you, such a case of arrested developement, imagines that he is clever, funny, and erudite. I already know why you're divorced. :-)
You are being delicate and restrained by merely calling him a clod. ;)
It is perfectly obvious he's thoroughly gauche. ;)
Best Regards, Ivan
The people in this story were clearly mocking God.
When I first heard about it, I was immediately repulsed and grieved - and I believe anyone who loves the Lord would be. Even a non-believer should be able to see what a sick and pathetic incident this was.
Sad, isn't it ?
