BUSH TO OFFER NEW TAX BREAKS BY LABOR DAY!
Fox News ^

Posted on 08/19/2002 1:14:16 PM PDT by Recovering_Democrat

Bill Kristol, publisher of the Weekly Standard, just announced on Fox News: His sources say the President is going to challenge Congress to pass INCREASED 401(k) contributions, greater "write off" for investor losses, and some other tax cut proposals. The President will offer these tax cuts right after Labor Day.

Kristol says the proposals should pass the House, and put the heat on the Democrat Senate.

Tax cuts are the only thing he seems to know how to do right.

How about cutting income taxes NOW? And abolishing the IRS soon after. We all saw how the Reagan tax cuts helped the economy grow - we need relief and stimulus today!

It would sure be nice if they raised the $3,000 limit on capital gains losses to $20,000.

The current limit was set in the late 70s.

I don't know about that. I think he's done a good job on the war against terrorism...have a little patience.

Larry Kudlow predicted the same thing last week.

Maybe tax cuts will be the tonic to get GOP voters out on November 5th.

Myself, I will wait and see what the President does. Contrary to Mr. Kristol's inflated reputation in liberal media, he has few sources inside the White House.

On the other hand, if these tax cuts are not offered (and I personally wasn't expecting any before the election) then there will be a whole lot of disappointed people, won't there?

I pay NO attention to Kristol, and I would advise everyone to wait and see what develops, and remember that Kristol has a history of trying to raise expectations far beyond what is possible or reasonable, to the detriment of the GOP.

All sounds good to me. Of course, these are token tax savings. I'll take 'em, but let's see an across the board reduction in the income tax rates.

That will keep the Democrats on the defensive for the month of September. It will put a lot of pressure on the Dems in the senate, Carnahan, Johnson, Wellstone, Toricelli, they will be in hot water if the Senate doesn't pass this. In october they will be busy debating an attack on Iraq and a congressional resolution authorizing it. The Dem's are screwed in this election I am happy to say.

He'll work on that once he has a GOP Congress. Paul O'Neil hates the tax code.

His Iraq knowledge is mostly wishful thinking on his part, but I'd believe him on something like this. It's good politics, now that the Democrats have made stock market investors into "the little guy."

I don't know that Bush will push for an attack this soon. He can't stump for candidates while we are in the thick of an attack in Iraq. He'll be in NH in October-- and we need him to be here badly. We have a shot at winning back the governorship and forcing Jeanne Shaheen to get a real job.

Assuming O'Neill is still around by then!

Kristol says the proposals should pass the House, and put the heat on the Democrat Senate.

Great post. The Torch has already put the HEAT on the RAT senate, let a house passed tax cut as described above turn up the burners.

After all the crocodile tears the RATS have shed for the "common man investor" and the 401k losses, let 'em TRY to oppose this.

Terry McAwful could rattle off 100 things Bush has done to destroy America (AKA thwart Democrats and liberalism).

Bush would have already tossed him were he in trouble. I think some folks might leave, but I wouldn't hold my breath over O'Neil leaving.

I do know that President Bush made a favorable comment about the increase in amount written off in losses. HOWEVER, I remain skeptical about what Kristol knows. For example, if all that is offered is the increase from $3000 to $20000, won't a lot of people feel like more should have been done, based on this story?

Kristol is the one who went on almost every news show and predicted a landslide victory for the GOP in 98. When we won, but not by huge margins, the Rats spun it as a loss. There was no reason for Kristol to make such outrageous predictions, except to raise expectations.

I just hope everyone keeps in mind who the source of this information is, and should not everything pan out as Kristol says, I hope people's anger will be pointed in the correct direction.

For once, I agree with Kristol. The Dems will be screwed because if they do not approve, the will look like the bad guys. Hehehehe. I love it. Wasn't this the idea of the Charles Schwab CEO? The timing of this is just incredible!

BTW, even though FOX says not to read anything into the Wednesday meeting of all the bigwigs, I say DO read into it. The Iraqi attack will happen, and will happen soon.
