The National Education Association is suggesting to teachers that they be careful on the first anniversary of the September 11 attacks not to "suggest any group is responsible" for the terrorist hijackings that killed more than 3,000 people.

Suggested lesson plans compiled by the NEA recommend that teachers "address the issue of blame factually," noting: "Blaming is especially difficult in terrorist situations because someone is at fault. In this country, we still believe that all people are innocent until solid, reliable evidence from our legal authorities proves otherwise."

The NEA continues to dumb down American students using cartoon characters and others to instruct, not real flesh and blood American heroes. It has become politically incorrect in American schools to teach Western Civilization and Culture.

Hint to NEA - it is still too close to the event to try to re-write the history books and blame the incident on American "decadence". You need to have another generation brought up in your schools before the spin will work.

"My wife is a teacher & the parents of some of these kids refuse to let them learn and if their kid gets a failing grade they come up to the school & threaten with lawsuits. The school complies & little Johnny never learns to read or write.

A complaint heard across the land! The parents were dummied down during their schooling by teachers who were never taught to teach in the first place. They are taught multiculturalism, political correctness, black history, and a multitude of other worthless subjects that will never help them put bread on the table when they are adults! Grade school is meant to teach reading, writing arithmetic, history and geography so the student is prepared to go on to college if that is the choice. Now College English teachers are having to spend half a year teaching their students how to read and write!

Principals are gun shy and job happy, well pass the student on with a disclaimer resolving any future responsibility for that student whose parents sue to get Johnnie ahead in school.

I'll buy some of that. We've certainly seen several threads on this forum about parents threatening teachers and administrators who would "dare" to flunk their precious angel, and the administration bending over and grabbing their ankles. And yes, a lot of parents attitudes are abysmal and they are reflected in their spawn (I mean sweet, innocent, children). But much of the blame can also be placed at the feet of some of the ridiculous teaching methods that have been foisted off on the public. Many of these methods like Whole Language, and See/Say type methods are absolute failures. The education elitists shunned the tried and true methods that have worked since the dawn of written language (phonetics) and pushed a bunch of garbage down everyone's throats.

I feel sorry for the handfull of teachers (like your wife) who really want to make a difference, but find their hands tied for fear of reprisal. That's one of the main reasons I changed my major and gave up education. I still get to teach, but don't have to put up with the NEA and their ilk.

It's most unfortunate that teachers are forced into some unions such as the N.E.A. simply because of necessity for Insurance & Legal Liabilities, regardless of their political stance. They're funding something they don't necessarily agree with but they can't live without, for instance my wife is a Science teacher & she does experiments all the time. What happens when one of these Little Heathen students decides to do something during a lab & blows theirselves up? My wife get's sued, and that's why she's a member of Page but sometimes it's a necessity not just a choice.

Okay now, the "Little Heathens" in science class probably would have applied to me in high school, LOL!! We never actually blew anything up (that's my story and I'm sticking to it! No one's talked for over 20 years, so...;)

I think you and I both know that there would be much better ways for teachers insurance and such to be handled, but we can rest assured that the NEA will never allow that. It would mean too much loss of power for them.

I asked a school activist in our area if the district goes along with the NEA and if they taught what the NEA proposes. His response was that they do not. I cannot confirm this as my kids are not in the govt. schools in this area.

No list of the dozen most socially destructive agencies in America could be complete without listing the NEA. Their attitudes have become increasingly anti-American with every passing year. They have endorsed much that is both evil and despicable. What they have not done is reaffirm any basic understanding of the purpose of a public school. Nor have they shown any respect for the values of the families, whose children they seek to corrupt.

Local taxpayers need to start drawing lines. Unless NEA influences are removed from the public school curricula, there are going to be major funding problems.
