MSNBC FUTURE IN DOUBT
DrudgeReport.com ^ | August 18, 2002

"The fall may be the make-or-break time for MSNBC," NEW YORK TIMES TV hotshot Bill Carter is preparing to write in Monday editions.

According to newsroom sources, Carter is set to warn how "future investment and promotion budgets for the channel" may be at risk during the coming months, as the all-news network continues to slump in the ratings, lead by the nearly still-born DONAHUE.

The pressure is coming from the very top of the MSNBCNBCGE tree.

Earlier this year, at a meeting of NBC's top management, Jeffrey Immelt, the chairman of GENERAL ELECTRIC, specifically cited MSNBC as the area of NBC that most needed attention. "He gave the order," a senior NBC executive has told Carter said, "and the order was, 'Fix it."'

As for the ailing DONAHUE, MSNBC prez Erik Sorenson tells Carter: "We're in the silly season. The news is so slow; it's been the summer of kidnappings. That plays more toward [CNN's] Connie [Chung]. Her show is cotton candy. It's all tabloid, all the time."

Sorenson said that come fall DONAHUE will start to take advantage of more hard news developments. "We'll have an election to cover and a war in Iraq," Sorenson said.

Beyond that, look for Donahue to book more celebrities. "He's going to have Oprah on and Harrison Ford and George Clooney," Sorenson said. "I don't honestly expect to have an answer on this until November."

Also, I used to watch Chris Matthews up until he wrote that horrible article about Bubba not having a 9-11 to define his legacy.

They certainly did not help themselves by adding that stupid redhaired guy with the glasses in the mornings and changing that news format into a very bad mimic of Fox and Friends. Donahue was a terrible mistake, of course.

Did it ever occur to these idiots that Americans might just prefer straight news from serious, unbiased journalists instead of stupidity and Tabloid?

Any "network" that turns for its salvation to Phil Donohue, the frosted sphincter, is already dead. All but its most primitive functions have ceased and its soul -- if it ever had one -- has long since departed. Good riddance.

As far as I know, he is still on MSNBC. I imagine he might get a gig on NBC, maybe on Sunday morning.

That's my take on it. Why does news have to have a slant? Just report it, and be done with it. So far, FNC has done that, IMHO.

I cannot believe that educated people could actually sit in a boardroom and believe that Donahue would be their saviour. They are their own little flat-Earth society.

LOL! Now, it would take a backhoe to knock that tub of lard off of a skyscraper.

Speaking of him, did you hear that he will be a regular on Hollywood Squares? His train to Oblivion has pulled into the station!

Yeah, but then who decides what "news" are? There are always bias in the news, no matter what. People are biased, including you and me.

20 minutes of the 'Reparations Rally' on CSPAN. I was amazed the efforts they went to, to avoid showing the entire meager crowd.

C-SPAN is bought and paid for by the major cable companies. That means Time Warner has a huge influence on what is on C-SPAN. It is the left who pays for C-SPAN. Anyone who belives that Bryan Lamb calls the shots on C-SPAN has to believe that he who pays the piper does not call the tune. Brian is just the piper. He plays whatever tune his bosses tell him to play.

On most of its programming C-SPAN plays the Liberal tune that that its owners demand. It was interesting to hear Ann Coulter tell Brian Lamb that most of his viewers were conservative. She reminded him that to satisfy the need to be "FAIR" he had to fix the way the call ins worked with Democratic, Republican and Independant "lines". Brian did not dispute Ann's contention.

When people complained about the three phone line policy as it went into effect, Brian Lamb responded that he did not have to react to public or viewer displeasure. He said he responed to a higher power. That is true. What Brian did not say is that the HIGHER POWER is the liberal cable industry. It pays Brian the Piper, and calls the tunes he plays on C-SPAN. Brian does what ever his bosses say for him to do... including not showing how small the crowd at a liberal event is.

What I am speaking of is this (hypothetical newscast):

"A _________ was murdered today by a man shouting anti-_______ epithets. Co-anchor X, do you think this proves that the Republicans should quit opposing the hate crimes legislation?"

Er, Matt, the phrase is "LED by the still-born Donahue." Not "lead," although given the plodding, heavy nature of the silver-haired oaf, it may be technically accurate.

It's all about having a leftist outlet for Democrat propaganda through the elections, especially with the new campaign finance laws in place.
