I'm oft considered a pollyanna - I don't think Sobran dislikes Jews just for being Jewish - he's too keen of mind for that.

Having said that, I believe ol' Joe writes the stuff he does because it's shtik. He's playing to the crowd, which is rife with crackpots, Luddites, and haters. Joe knows where his bread is buttered, and he makes a fine living from it.

I used to be a big fan of Sobran...I can't believe he was writing this kind of stuff then, in the early 80s. The disappontment I have in him is the same as for Art Buchwald, only for opposite reasons. Buchwald, whom I admired, turned out to have the convictions of a pantywaist. He was terrified of offending anybody. That sure isn't Joe's problem.

I read a 'Reese piece' last week and couldn't believe how deceived the guy is. He likened the Palestinian "Freedom Fighters" vs. Israel to the American patriots vs. Great Britan.

Just another smear job on Sobran. It may come as a surprise to you Chuck, but not all Conservatives are of the Christian "dispensationalist" variety and don't see Israel and the Jewish people as the center of the universe. Many of us believe that our "special relationship" with Israel which consists of continuing our massive foreign aid and running political interference for them as something that is outside the bounds of a conservative foreign policy. There are those who disagree, of course, but attempting to label a fellow conservative "Nazi" on innuendo is a tactic more commonly ascribed to the liberals, not a fellow conservative. I suppose you think Buchanan is a "Nazi" too.

Sobran's gone far beyond that. He's actively involved in with those in the Holocaust denial movement. He's an antisemite.

If you define "conservative" as being antisemitic and denying the Holocaust, then you define "conservative" a whole lot different that I do. Of course, you could slither off to join those that define "conservative" as hating Jews and denying the Holocaust occurred and it wouldn't bother me one iota.

I have not read anything by Sobran in a while. I followed the link to his site and came upon this:

Calling the WSJ online "Zionist" - well, I did not need to read anyfurther. The guy is obviously nuts.

He's just getting old, and some people get nuttier as they age. Reese and Francis are the same: the older they get, the more venomous they get towards the Jews. I knew an old priest, years ago, who blamed all the SIN in the world on Jewish bankers.

Anti-semitism is a hard cancer to kill.
