I have stopped at that Flying J many times over the last few years. I will make sure to stop on the next trip out and maybe spend a few extra dollars...

Let's see if I can summarize:

Cops mistakenly thought they had been granted permission to enter private property and conduct inspections.

Manager says to leave.

Cops leave.

Oh I get it, we have truck loads of illegals, possibly terrorists coming across in uninspected Mexican trucks and we have a team holding up commerce "checking for bad VIN numbers" on OUR truckers...All funded with bloated "homeland security" dollars I'm sure.

As much as I support "law and order" I have to agree with the manager. It is private property, and if they don't have a warrant, they can not go fishing in the parking lot.

Now, if they were looking for a specific truck, then it would be different.

In California they have mandatory truck weight stations on all Freeways. I assume that is where they do a cross check of licence and vin numbers.

-----Unhappy truckers told KRQE News 13 they planned to use their CB radios to tell other truckers on the road not to stop in Albuquerque.-----

I guess that no one ever heard of weigh stations and saftey inspections. The cops can go out on the street and stop them coming in and going out. They can tough if they choose to.

get used to it. like using off duty state troopers to flag motorists down to take a survey in Florida. The state will do as it will.

We're checking for bad VIN numbers, VIN switches, cab switches, trailer switches, bad trailers, stolen trailers..

What about murderers, buggerers, thuggerers, horse thieves, cattle rustlers...

Excellent! Airport Security coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

Prohibited conduct must be uncovered and punished. Everywhere. All the time. Unless your name is Ted Kennedy. Barbara Boxer. Charles Schumer. Jane Fonda. Cynthia McKinney......

Police say most business owners appreciate a police presence on the premises, but not the Flying J Truck Stop

Total BS. What business owner wants police inspections on their property?

I support and co-operate reasonable law enforcement. And, I would support and co-operate with these reasonable efforts.

I imagine that, when the owner suddenly finds his taxes increasing, or even finds that vandalism on the site is increasing, he might be persuaded to make a public spectacle of the 'unreasonable' behavior of the manager.

Stay tuned.

Good for the Manager. Why do you think they have weigh stations on the highway. They weigh vehicles to make sure the have not exceeded the Gross Vehicle Weight, Make sure vehicles have current IFTA stamps, and to conduct safety inspections.

Truck drivers go to truck stops to fullfil on of the most important Federal Motor Safety Regualations....SLEEP. The driver gets paid for the "mile" they drive. They will have to fudge log books to catch up for lost pay by sitting around, awake, waiting to be inspected. That manager is doing a valuable community service. Keeping an alert driver on the road.

"We're checking for bad VIN numbers, VIN switches, cab switches, trailer switches, bad trailers, stolen trailers, anything with bad VIN numbers or vin numbers that have been removed," said Officer Danny Langoria of the APD Auto Theft Unit.

TRANSLATION " We are going to Violate the 4th Amendment and dissassemble anyone's truck on this site"

"Apparently there was some misunderstanding about what we were doing. but I know he has business he has to protect," said Officer Langoria

NO, I think the manager knew all to well what was going to happen and had the smarts to stop it before it could get started.
