Thanks, folks. I appreciate your helpful input!

Oh, btw. Please ping this to any FReepers that
you think might be able to offer assistance.

Please bump this thread for me. Thank you!

Meek, I'm fairly certain this:

R U new? Some Tips....

is so old it's locked, too, but it's as close as I ever got to penning an "operator's manual" for Free Republic.

( Another yet-to-be-realized goal... )

Thanks, backhoe! It is locked, but I see it has some very good and pertinent
information that will help newbies and perhaps "not so" newbies too!
I bookmarked it for use in new FReeper orientation. Thank you !

Thanks for looking- it's "stuff I wish somebody had told me about at first" as well as "things that had me puzzled- how do you do that?"

Seeking help for new FReepers, please pardon this ping!
If you can help by providing links, information, etc., I
would appreciate it a lot!
Even just a bump is a lot of help (hint! hint!)

We were all new FReepers at one time, remember?.....
Thank you for your help and for indulging me this ping!

We do need a place where people can practice. The two most helpful things I learned were how to copy text and format it, and how to post pictures.

Maybe there should be a permanent place on Free Republic just for this purpose...a running thread in the General Interest section, for example.

That is a good idea. I know there are occasions when I would like a place to "Text" a post. I used to use the sandbox, but now I can't.

If you go to our beloved Resident Guru's michigander's FR Homepage he has all of the relevant information laid out.

You tEsT yourself using the Posting Comment 'Preview' button. If it's not correct there, scroll down and correct your 'Comment' section or hit 'Edit' at the bottom of the 'Posting Page' and go back and correct it.

michigander's page above will open in a new window, so you can use it as a reference while you're FReeping.

Cheers.

Another thing; Right Click and "View Source" will give you the underlying HTML for the page you're viewing.

with the way everything is set up now, once you find a tutorial, you can practice by previewing and you will see *exactly* how it would look if you posted (just make sure you don't hit post LOL)

Hi Meek

Not sure if this will help others, here are two links that helped me a lot.

The first is a quick list to HTML tags along with brief explainations and examples. Here's the link

IDOCS GUIDE

The second is a pretty popular place and may even have been posted to this thread before I got around to it but here it is anyway. It isn't just one HTML guide or tutprial but a page with a dozen or so links. It's on the internet at Pittsburgh Three Rivers Free Net. Actually I find LOTs of information there!

The top link on the page is pretty good (Barebones Guide) And make sure to scroll to the bottom and check out The Tutorials section. Here's the link.

Three Rivers Free Net

Hope this helps.
