Leftist Camille Paglia: Support Israel!

Paglia is many things but leftist is not one of them.

Nice post. Camille is no intellectual slouch. She has some crummy, creepy ideas (Ralph Nader?) but many, many good ones as well, not the least of which is seeing through the BS of clinton. Yup, Islam wants to take over the world and stifle freedom of speech, thought and worship. Camille is smart enough to see that, and sees Israel as America's proxy in this fight of global dimensions (just as the forces of darkness see the palis as their proxy). And Camille, after some intellectual tricks on the high wire, comes down in one piece, with the right answers and some pretty good arguments. She got the right message from 9/11, which is that Islam is *not* a relgion of peace.

I find specious the common argument that Arab states are to blame for not resettling dispossessed Palestinian refugees after the creation of Israel.

What she did not address is the other part of argument: Arab states, which incite and reward Palestinian terrorism, have yet to provide ANY REAL humanitarian aid to them, whatsoever, much less resettle them.

Camille is a smart woman, damn smart, but statements like the one above go to show that even brilliant people think with their butts occasionally.

Though Italian Catholicism is my cultural heritage, I am an atheist who passionately identifies with ancient Mediterranean paganism.

...And sets about proving her moral idiocy with this ridiculous diatribe.

"Gore...with his military background...."

Oh, Brother....

From her previious interview with A. Sulivan: "As for the bitterness and hysteria I spoke of, I was mainly referring to the degeneration of discourse on TV and radio talk shows. Political positions have rabidly repolarized, and gradations of opinion have vanished. I loathe this trend of anointing partisan campaign consultants to host news shows. Hence two programs I used to watch - ABC's This Week and CNN's Crossfire - have dropped off the map for me. I wouldn't waste two seconds listening to that unctuous socialite, George Stephanopolous, or Paul Begala, a yapping mongoose with the ethical sense of a stone."

I've always liked C.Paglia for her forthright fearlessness and her wonderful ability to skewer leftists and their shibboleths.

I like reading Camille Paglia's thoughts/essays/columns. I'm glad she's come around on her views on the Palestinian issue.
