Strapped for cash and struggling mightily, Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon's campaign laid off nearly half its paid staff Wednesday in a move portrayed as streamlining for a post-Labor Day push to defeat Gov. Gray Davis on Nov. 5.

The cuts were announced late Wednesday by campaign chairman John Herrington and are effective today, little more than a week before President Bush is due in California for three fund-raising events on behalf of the Los Angeles businessman.

It is truly amazing how many "Arm Chair Campaign Managers" post to Simon threads

You got that right.

Go Simon!

Just wanted to express my hope that you weren't one of those cut back from the campaign. I'm sure it hurt to fire all those people, but you gotta do what you gotta do in terms of using your money most efficiently.

I hope he manages to double the salaries of a lot of people come November. He's a classic venture capitalist, that man :-).

Best
D

You guys must have me confused with someone else.

I AM a big fan of Bill Simon's! And i am wayyyyy optimistic that he's going to win. We are all in this together and we have not yet begun to fight!

Ever the optimist bump. It's a loooong way to votin' time and Grayout is still disliked by most, even in the Rat party. Hehehehehe....

Go Simon!!!

Thank you for your insight, I don't live in California, my knowledge is very limited. I will refrain from saying stupid things on Simon threads in the future. I read them with great interest though.

It would be very good for the entire nation if Simon was elected.
