Strapped for cash and struggling mightily, Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon's campaign laid off nearly half its paid staff Wednesday in a move portrayed as streamlining for a post-Labor Day push to defeat Gov. Gray Davis on Nov. 5.
The cuts were announced late Wednesday by campaign chairman John Herrington and are effective today, little more than a week before President Bush is due in California for three fund-raising events on behalf of the Los Angeles businessman.

I AM a big fan of Bill Simon's! And i am wayyyyy optimistic that he's going to win. We are all in this together and we have not yet begun to fight!
Thank you for your insight, I don't live in California, my knowledge is very limited. I will refrain from saying stupid things on Simon threads in the future. I read them with great interest though.
It would be very good for the entire nation if Simon was elected.
