Shocked. Yes, shocked I am.

I am especially shocked because Andrew's father, Mario, once proclaimed there is no such thing as the Mafia.

Wasn't his ties known back in 1991 and seen as a vulnerability against Bush?

Even putting this aside Cuomo has run a remarkably clumsy campaign. I live Upstate and there is virtually no evidence here that he is even running for governor.

When the Javits Center was going up in NYC at the beginning of Mario Cuomo's first term as Governor, there was a mob-related scandal concerning inferior building materials for the roof structure. During a television interview on the street in front of the new building, Gov Cuomo said in the best mob-mouthpiece tradition, and I quote, "I don't believe there is such a thing as a 'Mafia'".
That's all you need to know about the Cuomos and the mob.

When Papa Mario was still governor of New York and was being touted as presidential material, I asked a friend who had worked in NY State government what she thought of his chances. She told me that there was no way Cuomo could gain higher office as his deep ties to the mob would be immediately exposed in the national press. It was apparently very common knowledge in Albany that Cuomo was as bent as they come.
Regarding Baby Andy, this direct tie-in with La Cosa Nostra funds should be no surprise.
Regarding my friend's prediction about Mario, after what we have seen the press allow a pair of white trash thugs from Arkansas get away with for ten years, I have no faith that they would in any way expose the Cuomo family's ties to organized crime. We were just plain damn lucky that men like Reagan and Pataki were able to dissuade and defeat the pater of that criminal familia.

Even putting this aside Cuomo has run a remarkably clumsy campaign. I live Upstate and there is virtually no evidence here that he is even running for governor. I would attribute that to the fact that we are still in primary season and he is working on the democrat core located in NYC.
I also suspect he is sitting back and letting his 'independant' stooge Golisano try to soften Pataki up with his 'the upstate economy sucks' commericials.
I have seen a few Cuomo commericials with a similar theme up here in Rochester and Syracuse, however.

I suspect you're right about his thinking but the general election campaign is very compressed due to the late primary. I often drive by McCall's Syracuse HQ but I don't know if Cuomo even has one here. I've seen several cars with McCall bumper stickers but none with Cuomo's. Andy would have to make a big push quickly Upstate if he has any hope of eating into Pataki's big advantage here, which he will have to do in order to win.
As for Golisano, I think he will be a non-issue, just as he was in '94 and '98. Vanity campaigns tend to go nowhere.

Hillary! strikes again! Exactly. Hillary! has been handed a bunch of lemons, and has decided to make lemonade. It is clear to all than ANDREW, even with massive voter fraud and ballot box stuffing, is a lost cause. You can steal elections, but not when your guy is running that far behind. So it is clear to Hillary! that ANDREW is going to lose.
So how does Hillary! avoid the stench of being associated with such a loser? Well, if a story were to reach the press that he was mixed up with the mob, then his loss could be chalked up to his own failings and things that were really beyond Hillary!'s control. So it's not really a repudiation of Hillary!ism when he loses.
But would Hillary! be so devoid of morals that she would stab a loyal supporter in the back just to avoid personal embarrassment? Of course she is!
And then, after the primary, ANDREW can pull his father's patented "Your pointing out the obvious and manifest fact that I am tied to organized crime is nothing but a ethnic slur" move, and The New York Times will grant him absolution to go and sin no more.

Say it ain't so .. Andy has mob ties
I'm SHOCKED ...
BTW .. I don't think Hilda is behind this .. Andy is part of The Party Of Bill Clinton .. besides he's not running for President
As a Gov he'll help push Hilda's agenda when running in 2004
Why do you think the Clinton Goons are running for office all over the country ...

Now I'm not surprised since Andrew Cuomo is married to Kerry Kennedy, one of the notorious Kennedy clan who have always had mob ties dating back to old Joe Kennedy, former ambassador. Old Joe made his millions illegally running booze during Prohibition. He later tried to turn legitimate and disconnect himself with mob ties when sonny Johnny got the presidency. However, old Joe, Johnny and Bobby forgot one primary rule. Once involved with the mob you don't disconnect.
