Every summer for the past 25 years, New Zealand native Maggie Anderson and her American husband have visited their family in Portola Valley.

But never before had her visit begun in handcuffs and humiliation.

Upon landing at Los Angeles International Airport at 11 a.m on July 24, Anderson -- a former flight attendant who had flown in and out of U.S. airports hundreds of times -- was questioned and arrested by federal immigration agents.

Hasn't someone told these security people ,it was young middle eastern men that are involved in the destruction of our country.

If, a white man robs a bank, you don't pull over black men looking for the suspect. Stupid bastards. This is something Bush needs to address, unless he is liberal and thinks this is OK. He is the man. He needs to make it right. Islam has vowed they will destroy us. Anyone, that is Muslim needs to be checked out, not Christians or caucasian people.

Thanks for the ping, I missed it. It will be interesting to see who gets the nod, and what changes will be made quick enough to suit everyone.

`"`Post 9-11, we are being exceedingly careful about dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's,'' Kice said, ``because we recognize the potential tragedy if we make mistakes.''"

Too bad no one informed her that she should have just flown into Mexico City and walked across the border like all the rest does.

I just found this at the FAA website [link]

Non-Discrimination on the Basis of Race, Color, National Origin, Sex or Creed

This Fact Sheet is intended to address questions and concerns about the travel of persons and potential discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex or creed as it relates to airports and airlines. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, security measures have been heightened for the safety of all. While safety and security are the highest priorities, of equal importance is a smooth, and safe experience for all individuals as their journey takes them through the aviation system.

Protecting the constitutional and civil rights of the American public remains one of our highest priorities. None of the new security measures decrease the responsibility of airports and airlines to enforce 1) Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the implementing regulations, 49 CFR Part 21 and 14 CFR 271.9 and 2) 49 U. S. C. 40127, 41310 and 41702, regarding discrimination. Federal civil rights laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of a person’s race color, national origin, religion, and sex.

However, everyone may experience some inconveniences and delays while the nation adjusts to the new security reality. You may be asked to exhibit an increased level of cooperation in security searches with today’s new security regulations. Please assist the security staff in accomplishing their required tasks. Private security screenings requests should be accommodated when possible. Just as there can be no discrimination against people on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, or creed, there can be no compromise to the commitment and enforcement of safety and security standards in the aviation community.

For general information and inquiries on the air traveler with respect to a discrimination complaint, the following contacts, web sites and e-mail addresses have been identified:

For airline or airport problems, contact the Customer Relations or Consumer Affairs office of that airline or airport.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s e-mail address to register your concern about airline service when experiencing air travel service problems regarding discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex or sexual orientation is: airconsumer@ost.dot.gov . Complaint forms for downloading or printing are available at www.dot.gov/airconsumer/problems.htm.

Federal Aviation Administration web site for general information for the air traveler on equal opportunity matters. www.faa.gov/acr/acrhome.htm

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) helps employers and labor unions guard against unlawful discrimination and investigates incidents regarding workplace discrimination against innocent individuals because of their religion, ethnicity, or country of origin. Two web sites to assist you are: www.eeoc.gov and www.eeoc.gov/facts/fs-relig_ethnic.html . The EEOC’s Publications Distribution Center has an information sheet available at 800/669-3362 (voice) or 800/800-3302 (TTY). To contact the Commission office nearest you, please call 800/669-4000 (voice) or 800/669-6820 (TTY). The e-mail address is ofo@eeoc.gov and the phone number is 202/663-4599.

The U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division National Origin Working Group combats discrimination by receiving reports of violations, conducting outreach to vulnerable communities to provide information, and working with other Department of Justice components and agencies. Visit www.usdoj.gov/discrimination.

While we are hopeful that contacting and coordinating with the airline and/or airport in advance will make your trip a smooth one, we realize that things do not always go as planned. As an air traveler, if you feel that you have been treated in a discriminatory manner and in a way inconsistent with the safe carriage of all passengers, you may file a complaint against the airline or airport owner. Complaints on discrimination matters regarding race, color, national origin, sex or creed should be filed with the following:

Complaints and concerns against airlines in providing air transportation regarding discrimination against persons based on race, color or national origin, should be directed to:

Aviation Consumer Protection Division (C-75) Office of the Assistant General Counsel for Aviation Enforcement and Proceedings Department of Transportation, 400 7th Street, SW, Room 4107 Washington, DC 20590

Complaints and concerns against 1) businesses serving the public on the airport property regarding discrimination, or 2) against an airport operator/owner in providing services at the airport or in airport programs regarding discrimination against persons, should be directed to:

Office of Civil Rights
Federal Aviation Administration
Room 1030
800 Independence Avenue, SW
Washington, DC 20591

Complaints and concerns regarding discrimination based on race, color, national origin or sex in programs or activities of federally assisted entities or in the provision of public accommodations, should be directed to:

U. S. Department of Justice
Civil Rights Division
Coordination and Review Section
P. O. Box 66560
Washington, DC 20035-6560

We are hopeful this Fact Sheet will help make your travel experience a smooth and enjoyable one. The FAA continues to be serious about its commitment to fair treatment for all persons using the air transportation system in the United States and wants your journey to be both safe and enjoyable.

"The charge? In 1998 -- three U.S. visits ago -- she overstayed her visa by eight days."

Let this be a lesson. When the Visa expires, that means EXPIRED!! I'm so sick and tired of the liberal media blaming everyone but the ones responsible. The dumb bi**h should have applied for an extension on her visa. I dont feel the least bit sad for her. The rules are the rules. SHE broke them and it caught up with her. TOUGH!

Some years ago, I wrote a dissenting opinion which argued that a prisoner who had been beaten but only received minor injuries could not, in this case, base a claim on the "cruel and unusual punishment" clause of the 8th Amendment. Now, there are obviously different, legitimate points of view on this case. If not, I would not have been in dissent. But what is striking is that I was widely denounced for advocating the beating of prisoners, which is ridiculous. When a wrong is done, justice requires that it be weighed impartially. The critics weren't content to argue that I was analytically wrong --- that I had misinterpreted the law in making my decision --- rather, they sought my conformity, or, in the alternative, my silence.

Even if one has a valid position, and is intellectually honest, he has to anticipate nasty responses aimed at the messenger rather than the argument. The objective is to limit the range of the debate, the number of messengers, and the size of the audience. The aim is to pressure dissenters to sanitize their message, so as to avoid being subjected to hurtful ad hominem criticism. Who wants to be calumniated? It's not worth the trouble.

from your profile:

"Clean out the alien immigrants and recognize this pussyfoot "war" on terroristm for what it indeed is: a war against a filthy religion. "

Idiotic to say the least. There is a such a thing as Freedom of religion in the constitution you say you fight for.

And what was this lady if not an illegal alien? If she were a mexican lady doing the same thing you would stand and cheer. Can't have it both ways, so I say put them all out period, if they have done something illegal.

Not to mention your lame attempt at a backhand at my screenname. Makes you sound like el punk.

If the lady from New Zealand overstayed her visa by eight days why didn't the INS gestapo nail her on the way out?

Handcuffing her, inspecting her body with surgical gloves and holding her incommunicado for 21 hours is unconscionable.

As far as Mexican illegals entering the USA is concerned, they don't fly in on a scheduled airline flight. They wade across the shallow river that marks the border of our nation.

I will never apologize to another "Christian" for calling the muslim religion filthy.

Further, I said nothing about "freedom of religion." Many Americans have come to realize that there are very few freedoms in our nation. The way the INS works and the way the new Homeland Security laws (yet to be enacted)will operate will reduce our freedoms and ignore the real threat to national security.

Your baseless attack on another poster was the reason I thought your handle was appropriate.

What makes Islam a religion anyway?

If Hitler had told everyone that some angel dictated Mein Kampf to him while he was in prison, would we consider Nazism a religion just because the Leader through the word G-d around in the battle plan?

Do Jews, Christians, Buddhists, etc. issue Fatwas?
