And maybe you'll like this story... At the last National Day of Prayer here, which took place in Santa Monica, my six-year-old was asked to lead the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

It was quite a sight as the proceedings got ready to begin. Two long tables had been set up on either side of the podium, and the eight West L.A. pastors and ministers chosen to speak were seated at them. And so was my son, this incongruous little peanut in between the suits. Too funny.

6'7" - that IS a great big Texan! Probably heard his music on the radio before - but not that one! (I switch around - sometimes like C&W, sometimes Jazz, sometimes Easy Listening; sometimes Soft Rock; sometimes Big Band...sometimes BlueGrass (if it's the kind that was in "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?")....etc :)

I looked at the Pledge today as everyday and I must tell you this is the best one yet...

The heritage/legacy that we were given by those who have gone before us will be turned over to those who come after us - the children of this country represented by the little girl.

The picture also reminded me of Christian J. at our last meeting leading a group of adults and other children in the Pledge of Allegience. He isn't my child, but I am as proud of him and the other children that were there that day as if they were my own.

Freedom isn't Free, you have to work for it.
