BUBBA'S REVENGE

Forget Cirque de Soliel. Move over Siegfried & Roy. Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe hit Vegas on Saturday to rally the Democratic faithful gathered for their annual convention and put on quite a show, delivering a scorcher of a speech against the GOP and the White House. In a year where control of the Senate, House, and the majority of governorships can go either way, the McAuliffe tirade is to be expected. But given his alliances and past business dealings, the bulk of his remarks were phonier than Wayne Newton's hair color.

McAuliffe, the money-man who flaked for a President who took lying to new heights of shamelessness, flouted campaign finance laws in the '96 election, and then topped it all off by playing Pardon-o-rama, lectured on the meaning of trust. "George Bush squandered our trust" and how "he wasted the opportunity." It gets better. The guy who turned a $100K investment in Global Crossing into and $18 million pay-off as average investors were left with nothing, railed against the "giants of capitalism [who] collapsed under the weight of their own dishonesty." He wowed the crowd with bumper-sticker one-liners such as: "These scandals represent a stunning betrayal." Vegas hadn't seen such bravado since Evil Knievel's big jump in front of Caesar's Palace. But the hypocrisy meter shot to red when McAuliffe pointed out that some of the participants in the President's Economic Forum this week are -- gasp! -- political contributors. [Flash back to August 24, 1997, when McAuliffe told The Observer: "Did I ever ring anyone and say that for $50K you can have lunch with the President? Or, for whatever, you can fly on Air Force One? Yes, I did! Thousands of times! And so what?"]

As November approaches, Republicans must take off the gloves and remind the American public that the same people who recently jumped on the integrity bandwagon after Enron and WorldCom collapsed were deriding efforts to restore integrity to the Presidency during much of the 1990s. It's okay for the President to be Mr. Nice Guy in domestic politics, but the Republican leadership can't afford to stay above the fray. It should use the same strategy against the Dems that will be required in any strike against Iraq: Hit first, hit hard. Repeat.

"McAuliffe, the money-man who flaked for a President"

Perhaps he did that too. McAuliffe is a flake for Clinton, or maybe he provides the impeahced rapist's "flake" -- drugs.

But the word meant is more likely "flacked".

On Dec. 18th, 2000, the electoral college elected President Bush, ending any debate. On Dec. 19th, Clinton went to the UN to push for tougher sanctions on the Taliban unless they handed over Osama Bin Laden within 30 days. On Dec. 20th, the UN reluctantly issued the threat...effective Jan. 19, 2001 - President Bush's inaugeration eve.
Other Clinton gifts left for the new President...last minute regs. putting ANWR essentially off limits, President Clinton signed the "Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP Benefits Improvement and Protection Act of 2000" (the "Act") on December 21, 2000..."record funding" - 5 years worth, killed the program created by Congress in 1999 to allow imports of low-cost prescription drugs, repeal of the tough new ethics rules regarding lobbying he imposed on senior White House staff and other high-level administration appointees when he came into office, signed us up for the ICC, changed arsenic level regs. for drinking water, added 30,000 pages of new federal regulations, awarded $1 billion in grants "to help more than 200,000 homeless people find shelter", relaxed export controls on military grade computers, appointed 21 of his own Dems. to protect our nation from cybersecurity threats- including Gore advisor Jack Quinn and Wellington Webb (these guys were in place on 9-11), designated more than 5.6 million acres of federal land as national monuments, Just three weeks before his scheduled return to private life, Clinton instructed White House domestic policy aide Bruce Reed and economic chief Gene Sperling to "keep coming up with new ideas," according to Reed.
One morning at the nub end of Bill Clinton's presidency, Clinton chief of staff John Podesta walked into a senior staff meeting in the Roosevelt Room waving a copy of USA Today. Holding the paper aloft, Podesta read the headline out loud, "Clinton actions annoy Bush." The article detailed the new rules and Executive Orders the outgoing President was issuing in his final days, actions aimed in equal measure at locking in Clinton's legacy (in areas like environmental protection) and bedeviling his successor. "What's Bush so annoyed about?" Podesta asked with a devilish smile. "He's got four years to try to undo all the stuff we've done."
Link.

"We laid a few traps," chirps a happy Clinton aide.....

When the Demmycrats showed up, the act's name was changed to Siegfried & Boy.

Are Americans still stupid enough to fall for this bullshit in sufficent numbers that the demoncrats can conjure up enough dead peoples votes to win any further elections?

Sadly, with the help of ABCNBCCBSCNN, probably it's a yes.

Republicans must take off the gloves

Hell, I'd be happy if they would just do THIS. Time is short, patience is thin, and resolve is waning. And I'm not really sure if they want to merely survive or THRIVE.
