Well what I took from that world series first pitch was "Gee I used to own a baseball team I ought to be able to throw a baseball".

Not necessarily true, but I have to admit he made me proud at that moment.

'The author of this piece is extremely jealous of Bush's physical fitness. How pathetic'

I think he wants him

'What exactly is this guy's complaint anyway? The fact that Bush likes baseball and is physically fit? I don't get it... '

Has anyone considered that this might be how GWB manages stress? He does have a rather stressful job.

I read this and kept thinking of Frank Bruni and his snobbishness. There is some good stuff in the article but Kettman tries to be clever but fails and instead, just ends up showing disdain. He must not be a very happy man and boy are they scraping the bottom of the barrel now - ragging on Bush for being a sports fan. Sheesh...what will they try next.

The hubris of the press continues to totally amaze me. What a bunch of idiots.

Also, he made a mistake as it wasn't Sara Hughes cell phone, it was Sasha somebody. Pfffttt!

You've got to be kidding! Do you think most owners of professional sports teams can actually play the sport? yeah right.

Sasha Cohen. Good catch!!

Yeah, and these are the same stupid people that pounce all over Bush and politicians when they flub the facts while answering questions. Sheesh...this guy was writing this and still couldn't get it right.

I hate the press.

Frankly, I prefer to take the word of the athletes who get to meet Bush and spend time with him than the likes of some sappy reporter who doesn't. He gets in a few jabs at the media but fails to see that he is part of the problem too.

So, I read every word and I can't figure out yet what there is about our President that this guy can't stand.

He obviously was dissing GWB. How pathetic.

From throwing that pitch at Yankee stadium to grabbing his Dad's hand at the memorial service after 9-11 to chopping down trees and driving his truck around the ranch...this President is more like the average American than any I can remember.

"It's easy to laugh, as many political analysts and pundits do, when George W. Bush makes yet another over-the-top effort ot show how much he loves sports".

Just WHAT is it about Mr. Bush, an honorable, normal, and focused man, who just happens to like sports (like most normal guys), that the snotty, Fourth Estate Elites don't like?
Let me take a shot at this...well, for starters, he loves his country, respects the military, and never made any excuses for his DUI over a quarter of a century ago, blaming a "Vast Left-wing conspiracy". And, oh yeah, he just happens to love baseball, which he played as a kid growning up in Midland, Texas. Way too normal for the Northeastern & Northern California crowd Kettner hangs out with.

Daschle's got dough too thanks to his wife and Kerry of Massachusetts married the Heinz ketchup heiress. I bet they never run out of ketchup. He looks so Revoluntary War to me. What's with Kerry's hair? He should dress in period costume and give tours. He does not look like a modern man.

Now Dubya, there's a modern man and I LOVE HIS ACCENT.

I know joe sixpack, he's been a friend of mine for years, and believe me, Bush is no joe sixpack.

You do realize there is a big difference between Joe-6-pack and Gomer-12-pack? You may have the two confused.

......the disconnect between his continuing poll strength and a widespread sense of alarm in the general public about the direction in which the country is heading.

I've seen little to no evidence of any "widespread sense of alarm in the general public".
What is this guy talking about?

I wonder if the writer ever considered that President Bush just might be a sports fan?
IMHO what gets these guys is that Bush really does connect with joe-sixpack because he is a real person, unlike a certain unnamed democrat presidential candidate who needed a woman to tell him how a man acts and dresses.
