The incredible minds of FreeRepublic

Posted on 08/08/2002 5:48:46 PM PDT by rintense

Since there aren't any photos today, I thought we could try something new. Instead of posting your favorite photos, let's have a friendly debate (and I mean friendly, damn it!)

Tonight's topic: Media stories about Iraq: Pentagon plants or True stories. Discuss.

RULES: 1. Be respectful of others' opinions.
2. If you use sources, please cite them.
3. No flaming!
4. See rule 1.

LOL! I like this one, too. I'm still searching for my favorite, that used to be on my desktop until hubby got me a new computer. It was the one with Bush with a bunch of our young troops behind him, just clapping their hands off.

Then I said, "Now see here, Saddam!"

I agree that it's a mix ... some leaks by sour-grape or vindictive Clinton leftovers (higher level staff still in the Pentagon, I hope that root these rats out) along with some "deliberate misinformation".

I enjoy the irony of Saddam spouting off about how the "evildoers" (AKA "the Great Satan") will be destroyed by the uprising of the brave Iraqi people combined with his rather pathetic whining to the U.N. and the Euroweenies, how he's ready to "talk" about allowing the weapons inspections again, and can't you see how opressed his POOR country is (please ignore the fact that he has built palaces filled with treasure and gold all over the place)

What isn't funny is his "strategy" to place his weapons and defensive systems among the civilian population -- what a cowardly and sick thing to do -- hiding behind the skirts of women and children (but then, anyone who would gas his own people wouldn't care if a few thousand of the riff-raff was killed -- great for the liberal propaganda machine, eh ?)

Hi Rintense,

This is totally off topic, but a friend told me that after watching the news on Sunday she was sure she saw Michael W. Smith (he's a Christian singer for those who don't know) with President Bush #41 and President Bush #43 in Kennebunkport.

She didn't know how to verify it, and then I had the idea to go and check your posted photos from Sunday, and sure enough in two or three of the photos on the boat, was Michael W. Smith.

Just wanted to say a "thanks" for the threads you post, and share how they came in quite handy in helping my friend.

Perfect! Better to have Laura footless than have to look at the Grifter family.

I agree -- I'd love to see people post their favorite pixes. Of course, I am technologically challenged so I will only be able to enjoy the fruits of other people's labor!! But enjoy I will!!

[Personal opinion: An attack on Iraq is still 5 months in the future. I'm more concerned about the upcoming election! Three (3) days of green on Wallstreet is certainly a plus for the President/Republicans. If this rally can continue and August becomes an UP vs DOWN month, we will be able to develop some positive traction going into the final months of campaigning!! PRAY PRAY PRAY!]

Speaking of Texans -- have y'all seen this joke?

A city boy, Kenny, moved to the country and bought a donkey from an old farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day.

The next day the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died."

Kenny replied, "Well then, just give me my money back."

The farmer said, "Can't do that, I went and spent it already."

Kenny said, "OK then, at least give me the donkey."

The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him?"

Kenny, "I'm going to raffle him off ."

Farmer, "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!"

Kenny, "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he is dead."

A month later the farmer met up with Kenny and asked, "What happened with that dead donkey?"

Kenny, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $898."

Farmer, "Didn't anyone complain?"

Kenny, "Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back."

Kenny grew up and eventually became the chairman of Enron.

I can remember my dad telling stories of how the media hyperventilated over our going to war in Europe. Several of them had been to Europe and had seen the Hitler troops. All they could say was "we cannot possibly beat them". But ... WE DID!!

Now, they're doing the same thing they did before the Gulf War started. Well ... I believe the President has surrounded himself with men who are realistic and would not purposely take out troops into harms way just to give the impression we were tougher. And ... I remember all the film on the Iraq troops who were in total disarray.

All the stories from the media were just fabrications from the liberals' "point men" - people who were supposedly on the ground and giving them the truth. Obviously, they were not giving the media the truth; but the media believed it anyway, because it was a repub president who was starting this war and they would have liked nothing better than to have seen him beaten on the battlefield - nevermind that it would have been our troops who would have been killed. That fact was never important to them.

Never forget Sadaam is sending support money to all the families who KILL Israeli's or Americans. That alone should be a reason to take him out.

We have the collective will, and the collective skill and we have been to this battle place before. Surely we can do a better job because of what we learned the first time.

Oh man, we have blueberries everywhere right now! They sell them by the road side for $1.25 for a container full. Heck, I can ride my bike a quarter mile down the street and pick them! So if you want some...

If you look at the map, it is a straight shot south through Georgia and Turkey, both of whom are already on board. Grampa Dave posted a link that the Turks have already taken an air base in northern Iraq.

I think we might have a great deal of Russian assistance, and I don't mean moral support.

This is not my FAVORITE picture, but one I liked for its show of quiet strength and the love shared by this close-knit family.

And notice how that constrasts with that other family in the photo.

I found some fun pixes of the President's visit to Mississippi yesterday at http://www.clarionledger.com/news/bush/36.html

It would be GREAT if one of you could post the pixes here -- including the pix of the pick-up truck full of BushBabes!!!

"Remembering the Gulf War, I remember how they had those Marines all prepared for an amphibious landing, and the media went on and on about it. Then we came in through the desert"

ROTFLOL - wasn't that great!! I laughed for hours over that. It was just about as good as when Reagan went to rescue our students at Grenada and shut the media totally out of the picture!!

Gee, thanks, but I happen to have some blueberry & raspberry plants in my backyard. I have to beat the deer to them, though.
