The incredible minds of FreeRepublic

Posted on 08/08/2002 5:48:46 PM PDT by rintense

Since there aren't any photos today, I thought we could try something new. Instead of posting your favorite photos, let's have a friendly debate (and I mean friendly, damn it!)

Tonight's topic: Media stories about Iraq: Pentagon plants or True stories. Discuss.

RULES: 1. Be respectful of others' opinions.
2. If you use sources, please cite them.
3. No flaming!
4. See rule 1.

The timing of the Secret Service decision seems off. Why wait until the President will be gone for almost a month? I remember there was some discussion of doing this immediately after 9/11, so why wait until now? Not that I think it's a bad idea.

The right hand side of that picture needs to be cropped! The left hand side says it all.

Blair is under a lot of pressure from the Left (his natural inclination). Germany is holding its elections this September. I think Stroibel (sp?), the conservative, is holding up well against Schroeder. The latest unemployment figures for Germany are close to 10% so there is a good chance that Stroibel could win the election. If he does, then Germany will be on board with the US...I think.

I'm not so sure that a lot of the leaks have been planned by the Administration ...... Rummy and Bush are both said to be furious about them and have investigations going on.

I think they both love this country too much ...... appreciate our history ..... know too much about just how much damage was done by the previous administration ...... to play little games with our future.

And we all know that there are many x42 holdovers even in the Department of Defense. I find myself wondering if they are the source of some of these leaks ..... trying to force things to happen the way they want them to happen rather than the way they should occur.

The fact that the media are the propaganda branch of the Rat party doesn't hurt their cause any at all. We all know that there are very few true journalists any more ...... most of them simply read the stuff handed to them by the Rats ...... they don't check into it .... they don't try to verify ..... they just go on the air with the day's memo. And heaven forbid that they actually go out and find their own stories! They would jump all over the chance to foil the plans of an administration who doesn't share their agenda .... in fact, they try that each and every day.

I don't have facts and sources ..... just my "gut" feeling.

LOL! Oh, I agree! But the contrast is really stunning, isn't it?

Here's another thought....most of these stories about Iraq are coming from the New York Times. I believe the NYT is using its 'reporting' to express its anti-war message. I think they are distorting the 'leaks' to further their cause, which is no war. I don't trust the NYT one bit and believe that this is largely an orchestrated attempt to preemptively start an anti-war message. And they are doing it through their reporters, rather than their editorial page and that stinks!

I hate the press.

No, I think Putin would give the expected obligatory 'whine' but in the end would support us. What's you theory for his silence?

Your point of view is one I hadn't considered, and you make a good point that loyalists to The Debauched One could be up to mischief. Wouldn't put anything past that nest of vipers.

Yeah, I know he does and so does everyone else. It's because the NYT is really the only one printing all this crap. And all of it is bad..."generals not convinced of victory in Iraq; blah, blah, blah." It's all negative and used to support their own anti-war message.

The disgusting thing is that this is the state of news these days. The NYT reports something and then everyone else reports on what the NYT is reporting! Wow, journalism at its finest, eh?
