[history]
August 6, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - These dramatic satellite photos show just how far U.S. preparations for war with Iraq have advanced.
They are images of the state-of-the-art al Udeid air base in Qatar, which has been significantly upgraded over the last six months and is expected to be used as America's base for military operations against Saddam Hussein.

I have seen this reported on Arab websites. Qatar claims that the buildup has been in the planning stages for 10 years, and the tent city is really nothing.
I don't think anyone in the area is unaware of this.

It borders more on the side of treason.

I can't believe what I am reading and seeing here. Treason is the correct word.

You would have loved the comedy stint by Carlos Mancias on the Japanese phone call to Osama!

This upgrade of the airbase in Qatar has been reported numerous times on several webstites. The Iraqis and everyone else in the Middle East are aware of the build-up. The base is so remote, no terrorists or Iraqi commandos could even find it, unless they're prepared to walk through the desert for two weeks without a source of water. Treason is when journalists discuss detailed strategic war plans, or reveal the location of secret US forces.

From Google keywords: al Udeid air base QatarHERE ... This "WAR PLAN" story isn't treason, it's shoddy tabloid journalism.

Hm-m... How about this plan: one nuke on Bagdad, another on Basra, and the game is over. Worked for Japan like a charm... Back then it was the Japanese Empire. Now it is the entire Islamic world. Do you think two nukes in Iraq will stop Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, etc.?

You are close, but came up to short on only cities. All of Rag Land should be NUKED until all of them Glow in the DARK, then Shot for GOD to sort out. That and that along will only rid us all of the Sh*t Pool of Nuts and Fruits.

Let not your heart be troubled! We know that they know, but ... do they really know what we know?

I can't believe what I am reading and seeing here. Treason is the correct word. It looks more like something the Pentagon wants everyone to know about. I wonder why? Is it to give Saddam a false reason to use a WMD against the base so Bush can justify nukes at the start?

Do you think two nukes in Iraq will stop Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, etc.? I think so. I think that as soon as the US shows it is willing to go nuclear, the game is over. We didn't destroy Japan. We just showed them we could and we would.
Having said that, I don't think a nuclear strike is a good idea because it justifies any response or any first strike anyone wants to make against us. It should remain our last option, one that I would hold in reserve against the use of WMD if we have no other options. If we can stop this by conventional means, that is clearly a better alternative.
FWIW, today is the anniverary of the nuclear strike on Hiroshima.

No, the Iraqis subscripe to the same satellite image services. I don't think the US is trying to hide this in the least.

- Only if they can count. They know those aren't our last two.

"I can't think of anything funnier than a handful of congressmen walking around. ..........", said Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. "It's a joke." Great line, Rumy, great line.
I think this qualifies as the quote of the day.

If you ask me, we should follow are friends on the left AND SPREAD THEM AROUND EQUALLY! I wouldn't want ANY of our Arab friends to miss out on all the fun! Im sure we can accommodate them

It borders more on the side of treason.I agree, but a leak like this can affect a countrys strategic thinking. If its disinformation. If this isnt an administration "sanctioned" leak, arrest the editor and reporter.
