According to a report by the New York State Emergency Management Office, it appears security was woefully inadequate in the days following the TWA Flight 800 disaster.
Confusion was the order of the day, as the different agencies of government wrestled for command of the investigation.
One of the missions the Guard accepted was controlling all flight operations at East Moriches as of 6:00 a.m. Sunday, July 21. Helicopter traffic grew heavier at the small Coast Guard station as the recovery operations at sea expanded. Divers were ferried out to the local-state-federal flotilla at sea and investigators, dignitaries and families were being transported to the Coast Guard station for briefings, etc. The need for tighter control over air operations became evident after it was learned that for the first 2 ½ days, a man claiming to be a U.S. Army Reserve lieutenant colonel bluffed his way onto the Coast Guard site -- wearing a U.S. Army Reserve green flight suit and flashing official-looking identification cards -- directed landings and takeoffs. It was later determined that he was an imposter.
Although the report outlines the incident briefly, there are no records available which indicate either the identity of the individual, nor the disposition of any subsequent criminal charges, if any.
COAST GUARD GROUP MORICHES
The Coast Guard Group Moriches site is located on Moriches Bay on the south shore of Long Island in East Moriches. The facility is situated on a small peninsula and consists of a main headquarters/operations building, a boat storage/maintenance garage, a dock area, and a number of out buildings.
The site is served by one gated entry road, and is relatively isolated from the nearest main highway. The site formerly had a small, designated helicopter landing zone, which was upgraded during the TWA Flight 800 operation.
U.S. Coast Guard and Suffolk County emergency response officials established the Coast Guard Group Moriches site as the Incident Command Post very early in the crash response. The site eventually hosted more than 35 agencies and more than 2,000 personnel. The site provided dock space for more than 20 boats. A temporary morgue was established for the processing of victims. The site hosted several dozen mobile command post vehicles and temporary offices of responding agencies.
A state-owned parking lot, just off site, was established as a media center and served as a base for dozens of media representatives and satellite trucks. Numerous interviews and press conferences were held at this location.
With the admonition, "See how much you have not been told about? Now think of what you may have missed, because it simply was not talked about...."

This is the part in the movie where no one believes the plot anymore.
Please excuse my rather blatant typos in the above article......the word of course is IMPOSTOR not IMPOSTER.
I, for one, think the Clintonian Conspiracy fully intended to take over in the "aftermath" of Y2K but since the problems never materialized they were temporarily thwarted.
The people in charge of various agencies have been lying to us for years, and it is possible the upfront declaration of Jesus Christ as his Savior by G. W. Bush has given renewed hope to good people who are letting the light of truth in on some agencies.
