Those deputies did a fantastic job. They saved the lives of those two girls. They deserve a medal!

This AH was getting ready to have his way with these young ladies, then he was going to blow their brains out.

The area where this event ended, was extremely remote. This was going to be the last stop for these two girl. No doubt about it...

Girls just wanna have fun. Besides, these feisty gals have Secret Srevice protection at all times.....so no need to worry about creeps like Roy Ratliff.

Anyway, they are just months from their 21st birthday.

Chelsea, OTOH, has been pictured falling-down drunk on several recent occasions. Her wimp of a BF looks like he'd run the other way if Chelsea were attacked. Where are your posts haranguing Chelsea Clinton and her parents?

I must admit, you have a point there, to all these strange folks who think these parents are to blame.....

It's hard to believe that you are a Vietnam vet AND an Episcopalian....and that you would reference such an ugly, vicious site about our First Lady. It's totally irrelevant to the subject at hand.

Do you drink, in the early afternoon?

JOe, no, he HAD his way with them, that is, sexually assaulted them. They were probably both raped and sodomized.

They were both bound on the floor of the vehicle, and he was looking for a good spot in the desert to get rid of them, murder them and dump their bodies.

This action is my idea of police success; not just catching the perpetrator, but catching him before he can dispatch his victims.

When will we start persecuting parents for negligence?

Freudian slip? Or just a bad vocabulary?

Are you into persecuting those who don't raise their kids as you think they should?

Wonder if you FReeper parents would like to comment on the parenting abilities of these two lovely young ladies...Jenna and Barbara Bush.

Well, I suppose someday when they are parents of their own, they'll have a much different viewpoint of the immature, self-destructive behavior they seem to find themselves engaged in. And IMHO, I think they were probably somewhat spoiled kids (lot's of free money floating around), and were allowed to freely come-n-go as they chose, without the direct, daily parental supervision that all teens need. I don't mean this as a criticism...I think it was mainly due to their parents' high-profile life of politics and public service that took a lot of time away from their children.

Lastly, I don't think it's asking too much of them to be a bit more descrete about their lifestyle/recreational habits. Whether they like it or not, their behavior is a reflection on their parents and their family. It seems to me that they can enjoy themselves and have a good time without bringing unflattering attention to themselves....just MHO, that's all.

You've missed the point, my friend. The point is that despite what some ultra-right FReepers believe, good parents sometimes have trouble with their youngsters. Take "Hillary's Lovely Legs" opinion, for instance:
There is a lot a parent can do. A parent can be a parent from the day the child is born and set down rules to be followed or else there are consequences. A parent says be home at midnight, you are home at midnight. You break the curfew you face punishment. It's not too tough unless you are a crappy parent. " Kids are going to do what the want" is no argument. It's lousy parenting...
Now, am I to assume that the Bushes are lousy, crappy parents or (like but not near as bad as Bill and Hill) a lousy president and first lady?

What? What's your source for this? Are you sure this is accurate, or is this what you personally believe?

Not once have I heard this, maybe I missed it.

Yep, kids do stay out later when they get older, and some unfortunately meet with trouble in the dark.

One of the girls was 16 by one day. When my daughter was that age, she was NOT allowed to be out with a guy more than 2 years older than she; nor to be out that late.

In the case of this particular girl, from what I read she was staying with an aunt, so it is rather moot as to whether her parents were too lax or not. Maybe the aunt thought she was doing the kid a favor letting her stay out later to celebrate her birthday.

I'm just glad the girls are safe, and IF either or both were sneaking out, I hope they learned a BIG lesson.

That's a good point. :) I wouldn't dream of criticizing the parents of these girls. I have no knowledge of the rules these kids are under or how much the parents make their kids keep tabs, who am I to judge? As a matter of fact, I think I heard early on that one of the girls' moms was in Korea visiting her other sister (can you imagine the distress of being that far away?) and she was staying with an aunt.

My parents did a very good job, and the reins were shorter than all of my friends', but I still managed to put myself in stupid situations. Never did it at my house but I had no problem sneaking out of friends' houses in the middle of the night. In Jr high, my best friend and I would go out her bedroom window, run all over the neighborhood at 2 or 3 am, smoke cigarettes in the woods. At another friend's house we snuck out and walked all the way into town just for fun - a couple miles of exposure to who knows what. Imagine the creeps we were lucky enough to avoid. And then in high school - no sneaking out at night but I definitely wasn't where my parents expected me to be more than once.

If nothing else, I bet the local cops are all over that makeout spot from now on!

Of course there are consequences, but sometimes teenagers don't obey. Who cares anyway, it is all irrelevant. What happened was unforeseeable (at least to teenagers).

This story reminds me of the story about the lovers lane and the guy with the hook. I don't remember the whole story except that the couple drove away and found the hook hanging on the car door handle. (I don't know if it was a movie or just a story that was told to scare us out of parking in dark ,secluded spots.

Times they are a-changing. When my husband and I were teenagers in the late 50's and early 60's it would have been much less likely that the young men would have passively allowed themselves to be bound and not to have gallantly done everything possible to protect their girlfriends.

I believe the boys reaction to this SOB is a by-product of post-modern educational philosphy presented in most public schools. "Group think" is highly valued. Individual responsiblity is down-graded. Lessons in value clarification teach self-interest is superior to self-sacrifice.
