Times they are a-changing. When my husband and I were teenagers in the late 50's and early 60's it would have been much less likely that the young men would have passively allowed themselves to be bound and not to have gallantly done everything possible to protect their girlfriends.

I believe the boys reaction to this SOB is a by-product of post-modern educational philosphy presented in most public schools. "Group think" is highly valued. Individual responsiblity is down-graded. Lessons in value clarification teach self-interest is superior to self-sacrifice.

I just love the Holywood bravado on this thread - the arm chair heroes that were not there. Just for the record, for those who complain about whimps - my karate masters, one a well-known welter weight champion, the other ex-secret service - trained troops in Desert Storm etc. tells us don't argue with a gun - you will lose.
