'Safety bullet' invention aims to prevent accidental shootings

A Florida man claims to have designed a safety bullet which locks up a gun when it's accidentally fired.

Mike Worley says his simple invention takes gun safety to another level.

He came up with the idea after a local boy was shot in his elbow while showing off his dad's .357 Magnum.

The safety bullet can be hidden in the gun chamber and ejected quickly if the owner needs to fire a live bullet.

If the safety bullet is fired, it jams the chamber and locks the gun until the shell is removed with a special tool.

The News Herald reports Mr Worley has applied for a patent for his invention.

He says several companies are interested in his design, and one has started making a prototype.

Mr Worley, from Panama City, says he supports the use of guns and understands why people need a loaded gun as protection.

He said: "I think the safety bullet is a step in the right direction. I don't want fame and fortune. This is a simple device that takes safety to the next level."

Not happy with the lack of responses to your GOA question? I got an idea, why don't you do the research yourself at www.gunowners.org.

they are driving a wedge between the gun groups and doing Sarah Brady's work by causing disruption

It looks like you are also driving that wedge. I'm an NRA lifer, too, but I don't bash the GOA members.

If we don't hang together, we will surely hang alone.

The first Chamber Flag is for M14/M1A1's.
The Second is for the M16/AR15's
The third is somewhat unusual. I had never seen one quite like it. It came in this week with my CMP 1903A3.
There is a flag that is attached to phony magazines where they substitute for the mag follower, but I have a dislike for those because they don't go directly into the chamber and there could be a round in the chamber.

I'm not the one sending money to an organization that continues to criticize another group. I really don't care what they do as long as they quit trying to undermind a group they have nothing to do with.
Ben Franklin's advice is apparently lost on them.

Poohbah,

As in grand poohbah? Got a better idea that will stop a kid or anyone else from using your gun that still allows you to have your gun ready in less than 1/2 a second I would like to see it.

Yeah. My kid knows that a gun is not a toy, and I don't let unsupervised children into my house. Holy F***ing S**t, Problem Solved, Batman!

Oh, and let me ask you this: what's to keep the weapon from being fired after the kid cycles the slide and ejects the Safety Bullet?

I have an idea... try answering the questions we have asked. Legitimate questions which you have ignored. Then extol the virtues of your invention.

My idea is train your kids. Then it won't even be an issue. But the question has been asked, what would be your liability for someone killed because she used your invention and forgot it was there when it got to be crunch time and she didn't have time to remove it before her attacker got to her? How would you feel, knowing your invention got her killed?

Also, forget the screwy laws of Florida, they are no worse than anywhere else. Why don't you own a pistol of some sort? That's another good question you ignore.

Still waiting for you to address the points that I have raised based upon my experience as a police officer and having survived armed encounters. Please respond to posts #296, #298 and #300.

I would appreciate an answer to comments fairly made and based upon training and real-life, real-time experience. I would also appreciate you providing names and contact information for those who participated in the testing and evaluation of your product, as well as names, expertise and contact information of individuals who are endorsing your product from the Law Enforcement Community, the National Rifle Association, the Million Mom March and the Brady Campaign.

Pretty close, yes. IIRC, the ones we had for the -16 was white plastic... and I THINK (it's been beaucoup years since I handled a -14) it was a white one a bit larger than your pic shows for the -14... we'd drop it in the chamber and close the bolt on it so the white flag showed...

You've gotta love his idea of "Well, let's just stick TWO of these thingies in the gun--one up the pipe, and one in the top of the magazine."

Why do I have a feeling that the closest this guy has ever been to a shootout was watching Rambo?

Hey, old friend... don't hold your breath waiting. He's sporadic at best and has ignored ALL the questions up to now. It's like an automaton responding with pre-programmed replies which can't vary until the programmer gets there to fix him.

It seems he's disappeared again. I notice he has ignored TC's questions as well as other posters.

Maybe his buddies at the MMM forgot to tell him that their propaganda playbook doesn't address real issues regarding personal defense and isn't designed to be used when speaking to intelligent and knowledgable individuals....
