Texas blues-rock group ZZ Top is successful enough to not play the wedding circuit, but that does not preclude one of the group's members from marrying people.
According to the band's publicist, guitar player Billy Gibbons has become an ordained minister, and can now perform weddings in 49 states.
Gibbons' fellow rockers have faith in his new position of authority. George Thorogood and the Destroyers guitarist Jim Suhler had Gibbons officiate at his wedding June 28.
Gibbons formed ZZ Top with bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard in 1970. They've scored such hits as "Gimme All Your Lovin'," "Sharp Dressed Man," "Tush" and "Cheap Sunglasses."
The group's publicist would not confirm what church Gibbons was ordained in, or what state denied Gibbons the right to perform weddings
From their site:
"Become a LEGALLY ORDAINED MINISTER Right Now, Right Here at this website and start your own ministry or church of any faith or religion, TODAY. After your instant ordination, proceed to print your instant full color ordination credential with your name and ordination date, all within 3 minutes, all 100% legal."
"Officiate one wedding ceremony or as many wedding ceremonies as you want."
(Note: I believe this is where Rev. Johnny Carson became ordained when he officiated at Tiny Tim's televised wedding ceremony decades ago.)
PS. Their link to the Pagan Wedding Guide received the annotation: "pretty good resource".
Are you kidding? That would have been a riot:
Do you Stone Cold take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? You do? ARE YOU INSANE? OH OH OH!!!!
