China is developing high-technology arms, including laser weapons and radio-frequency bombs, to boost its ability to successfully carry out warfare against the United States and other advanced military powers, according to a recent Pentagon report.

Beijing's communist rulers also are using strategic deception to fool the international community about China's long-term goals, says the annual report to Congress on the People's Liberation Army.

I have never and will not ever trust the Chi-coms! We need to cozy up with the Ruskies [with whom we have much more in common] and work together to keep the panda in the zoo.

...oh,jee, whiz, I am just shaken in my boots for fear of the mighty Chinamen.

You know what this article reminds me,...have you watch those stupid chinese old movies where the main character is warning the bad guy, that he is going to kick his ass for not behaving properly? I think this scenario pretty much summ's up the whole hoolabaloo about the chins kicking yank's ass.

Laser guns that can be used to blind soldiers and pilots and knock out U.S. space-based intelligence and communications networks.

The British naval taskforce which deployed to the Falkland Island in 1982 had operational 'blinding lasers' to be used on approaching aircraft to warn them to turn away or be shot down.

Thanks for the reminder. Remember that under the H1B Visa work permit, we allow many of their engineers and programmers direct access to our technologies by working on our projects here in the US. Download plans to a CD and its out the door.

Not to mention the number of firms that have been burned outsourcing their engineering and product development to them...'dual use technology' is hard to spot and even harder to control. Go ahead and keep outsourcing, you'll see your own technology again in a few years.

Russia reported to sell China 40 modern warplanes

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia plans to sell China 40 of its top of the range Su-30MK warplanes in a $1.8 billion deal, the largest such sale this year, media reports said on Tuesday.

Although the monopoly arms exporter Rosoboronexport declined to comment, the respected Vedomosti daily quoted industry sources as saying Beijing was seeking to buy the naval version of the twin-seater fighter.

If the $1.8 billion figure was confirmed, "it would be the biggest airplane deal struck by Rosoboronexport this year", the paper added.

Russia sold 30 Su-30s fighters to China in 1999 for some $2 billion. A further contract was sealed two years later, although the exact number of warplanes involved in the latter deal was not announced. Russian officials say the Chinese air force also has around 80 Russian-built Su-27s, the type of aircraft which crashed at a Ukraine air show at the weekend, killing 83 spectators.

It also has a licence to build 140 others from scratch or from kits.

News of Beijing's latest arms purchase comes against the backdrop of an arms race between China and Taiwan, which the Communist state regards as a renegade province which must be reunited with the mainland -- by force if necessary.

China has been boosting its capacity to launch an invasion of the island while Taipei has bought advanced Western weaponry, mainly from the United States, to defend its self-rule.

The new Su-30 sale adds further spice to reports that China has tested Russian AA-12 air-to-air missiles, which will boost the dog-fighting capabilities of the Chinese air force.

In response, Washington could sell Taiwan an advanced U.S. missile system for its 400-plus fighter fleet, which includes U.S. F-16s and French Mirage 2000s.

Funny . . . American military buildups are never viewed as a threat to China.
