Shark found swimming in Lake Erie

July 29, 2002

CLEVELAND -- Someone found a shark in Lake Erie, alive and well and swimming around.

A swimmer near the Edgewater Yacht Club thought he saw a fin in the water and caught the shark by the tail.

It died when he threw it up on land.

Marine experts say it was probably once a pet that was dumped in the lake.

I remember when a large and very-much-alive Great White was found in a hotel swimming pool in Cape May, New Jersey. Nobody ever figured that one out.

He probably didn’t cook it enough.

You're mixing up the Great White with the Hagfish.

And yes, that's a fish.

Could be like that brackish-fresh water shark like those hanging up the Mississippi River. From what I understand, those things are in the big muddy as far north as St. Louis.

St Louis? Sharks? I've never heard of such a thing.

Can someone do the Missouri thing and show me?

Kinda like those horseheads in bed. New Jersey is a little close to manhattan and it's, er, family environment.

On the other hand, did they mention seeing a toupee nearby?

The bull shark is found close to shore and can live for a while in fresh water, frequenting estuaries, rivers and lakes. It has been found up to 1,750 miles (2800 km) up the Mississippi River in the USA..

Could be this one maybe?

According to some experts, the bull shark (above), also known as the freshwater or river shark, grows from 7 to 11 feet long, and has "been found up to 1,750 miles up the Mississippi River in the USA and 2,500 miles up the Amazon River in Peru."

"Considered to be the most dangerous shark in the world, even surpassing the Great White Shark, a heavy bodied with a short nose and a medium sized second dorsal fin. It has broad, serrated triangular upper teeth and very powerful jaws. It has a broad diet and will eat almost anything."
-- The Shark Gallery, "Bull Shark"
I got no desire to be on the business end of that thing...
