WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) A Waterville woman was charged with child endangerment because she allegedly let her daughter and another girl spend the night at a motel with two men they met on the Internet, police said.

The woman drove her 13-year-old daughter and her daughter's 14-year-old friend to the bus station to meet the two men, said Police Chief John Morris.

Endangering the welfare of a child is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 364 days in jail

That's it? What about accessory to sexual assault? I can't believe this woman can get away without a felony charge.

364 days in jail? I'd lock her up and throw the key away.

Oh, come on. 13 and 14 year old girls, er uh women, ought to be able to meet strange men at a hotel. I mean its not like they were hurting anyone else. And they both went under their own free will. And the school system probably told them that this sort of sexual activity was ineveitable.

On the other hand, maybe they were just going to play tiddilywinks.

Endangering the welfare of a child? Isn't that like a Paula Poundstone offense?

Ping for my wife.

We just continue to slid further and further down that slippery slope.

That's where this world is headed.

I'd say we've arrived - between this and the thread running about the 5-month old baby, we can't sink much lower as a society.

I wonder if this mom had just finished reading that book by the woman who considers sex between children and teenagers and adults OK if they both consent.

How do people without a lick of common sense manage to live so long?

I'd think the mom (can one even really call her that?!)would be standing for charges of accessory to statutory rape on the 13yr old, especially as it was HER offspring!

Kenya D. Magnum, 20, of Durham, N.C., was arrested last week on a charge of gross sexual assault for the incident, which was considered statutory rape because the victim was only 13, police said. Anthony A. Adams, 19, also of Durham...

They sure are raising some fine, upstanding young men in Durham these days! < /sarcasm>

I started to read that thread last night but shortly into it, I realized I wouldn't be able to deal with it and stopped reading.

How about this scenario: the mother of the 13-year-old had something against the parents of the 14-year-old (or against the 14-year-old herself). She was taking a swipe at them by exposing their daughter to these guys. Like maybe she was okay with her own daughter messing around with them, but knew the other parents wouldn't approve, so to punish them for their relative prudery, she took their daughter out to get passed around. Some people can't stand anyone who's even vaguely decent.

I don't know... just a thought.

Her crime was that she didn't allow the whole thing to be filmed and broadcast as a TV reality show. (/sarcasm)
