Watch and pray. The rescuers are optimistic that they will reach the cavity where the miners are located by midnight, perhaps as soon as 10pm et.
They just reported that several PA miners were caught in a similar situation thirty years ago AND WERE RESCUED ALIVE AFTER A WEEK IN THE HOLE.

Did anybody actually read the headline? For a while there I thought I was back in the Clinton years!'Climax' has many meanings, only one of which is giggly.

Geraldo says the broadcast will continue until a resolution is reached. Geraldo is outvoted, they will switch away to a pre-recorded Cavuto special on stocks: "Don't Panic."
Feh.

And what's with this Snoop-Doggy-Dog gangsta-rapper "smooch-peace" gesture of his? Lameo.

These are the men who crawl deep into the earth and mine coal so I can sit here with my air conditioning, computer, lamp and big tv, just killing time. My dad was a miner, and he's told me all I've ever needed to hear. There are alot of miners in my family as well. This story breaks my heart. I had an Uncle, and I keep remembering hearing him say he hoped 'no more of his' relatives would have to mine (ie., get an education). Moving west, closer to Pittsburgh, meant getting a steel mill job (which made more money and unbelievably was safer work). My Uncle Owen died when I was a teenager (from black lung). I have thought alot along your same lines Petronski.
While watching the local coverage earlier today, Gov. Schweiker commented that he had received a telegram from the family group that was formed for the relatives of Flight 93 (that crashed not that far from the Quicreek Mine on 9/11) keeping the miners,' their families and the rescue workers in their prayers (they had received alot of support from the Somerset County residents they had encountered when they came to see the site post 9/11). I thought that was really a nice gesture.

MSNBC claims only six feet remain. Fox has left the story but promises to rejoin it. There is supposedly another news network called 'CNN' I think, but I dunno.
To: Petronski
Betcha they find some more Gore votes down there.

"FNC was doing an excellent job reporting on this story, that is until Geraldo showed up." I'm waiting for him to blurt out something about the "dastardly dirt" or the "underground redoubt".

"'Climax' has many meanings, only one of which is giggly." Well isn't that a gay revelation! :)

What's happened to them is on the heads of every vile anti-nuclear power greenbag. You got that right, brother!
Up here in my part of PA, we get most of our power from Niagara and from local coal-fired generators. Of course, on the grid all electricity is fungible, but I figure the vast bulk of our power comes from the closest places.

I just emailed Foxnews and asked them to tell Jerry Rivers to shut up.. I am tired to hear him ask run-on questions (vapid stupid) and then interrupt the person when they try to answer the question... I also asked them to send Jerry back to Afghanistan where hopefully someone will blow his butt to the moon...I requested that they put a HUMAN in charge of the program who would be compassionate and considerate of the feelings of the family members of the miners instead of droning on about how dark, cold, hungry, weak, disoriented the poor miners are (like jerry)

I had to switch from Geraldo, because I just kept having flashbacks of him waiting for them to break into that safe.
I can't even remember now what vault they were breaking into, some famous criminal's, if I remember right, but the anticipatory nature of the rescue kept reminding me of the previous program.

What the hell's going on at Fox? They just broke in with a news alert, some talking head was talking, but no audio and/or humming was heard. Then they broke to a commercial.

What was that Fox News Alert? I couldn't hear anything the guy was saying! Was it just my tv? Does anyone have closed captioning?
To: Don Joe
What's happened to them is on the heads of every vile anti-nuclear power greenbag. And all the greenies who have made strip mine (surface mining) permits almost impossible to obtain with the enviromental controls. So in 2002 we still have crews working beneath the earth because it is easier to risk lives than the landscape.

I just emailed Foxnews and asked them to tell Jerry Rivers to shut up.. I am tired to hear him ask run-on questions (vapid stupid) and then interrupt the person when they try to answer the question... AMEN! That dude on the scene, (Rick Leventhal?) was asked 15 questions and was permitted about 30 words TOTAL in response. And you could tell he just wanted to reach through the lens and THROTTLE the neck of Jerry Rivers (the official Scourge of FNC).
To: strela
Well, they fixed their sound problem. Schweiker (governor) is talking.

CNN has the live news conference. Things are going very well. They are within 6 feet.
