Tolerating Intolerance: The Challenge of Fundamentalist Islam in Western Europe

Two themes continue to recur in this excellent article: Western confusion and denial.

The importance of these in "Liberal" thinking cannot be overemphasized. And it is "Liberalism"--"Liberal" thinking--that poses the greatest threat to liberty, democracy, and Western Civilization in the world today because it is the enabler of their enemies, notably, though not exclusively, Islamic fundamentalism. It was the direct precursor of the September 11 Massacre.

For example: The Dutch, in their enthusiasm to reject Calvinist fundamentalism, refuse to recognize the fundamentalism inherent in Islam and mistake the replacement of the familiar by the exotic for an eradication of fundamentalism.

Unless Europeans and Americans come to their senses soon, face reality, and begin to think clearly, they are in for a VERY rough awakening--and much sooner than they think.

Americans and Europeans would be wise to recognize the need to reject "Liberal" fundamentalism and Islamic fundamentalism as ruthlessly as they reject Calvinistic fundamentalism, to face the fact that "Liberalism" and Islam pose mortal threats to everything that they hold dear, and that denial and confused thinking will lead to the destruction of everything that they revere.

Unless Americans and Europeans come to their senses soon and deal effectively with the problem of Islam, they are going to face the choice between a Third World War and the destruction of Western Civilization. They will choose war, but they will likely end up with both.

My prediction: At some point before the end of this decade,a movement will arise in Europe, probably coming out of the former East Germany, led by a youngish, charismatic leader that will call for the expulsion of the non-European population. At first, this person will be looked at with scorn and derision by the establishment, but his movement will gain power and strength very quickly and very dramatically. After seizing power in Germany, they will expell, or imprison a good percentage of the non-European (primarily Muslim) population. This movement will spread throughout Europe fairly quickly. This will be part of the overall "Western-Islamic War" that will dominate the next 5-8 years.

I would hesitate to call the article "excellent". Though the style is excellent, the substance is not.

Essentially, it is more neo-con hogwash, which is only slightly preferable to liberal hogwash. The gist is, Islamism is BAD (and conceding this places it ahead of general Leftist immigration ideology), but Third World immigration is GOOD as long the immigrants can be assimiliated.

It's hogwash because, first, the assimiliation favored by the neo-cons in unlikely to occur in the Politically Correct enviroment in America and Western Europe in this day and age, and to assume that such an enviroment can be changed is a stretch and a hellish risk if it not and assimiliated thusly fails, and, because, second, there is nothing wrong, ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong, with the preservation of Holland as an ethnically Dutch homeland, Norway as an ethnically Norweigan homeland, etc, etc. Certainly involutary deportation of legal aliens and citizens is wrong and should not be done; but who the hell has decreed that the immigration must continue and why is it assumed that it is a positive even if this pipe dream of mass Muslim/3rd World assimilation does in fact occur?

If Western Europe does not stop the immigration, or at least substantially reduce, their descendants will no longer live in Western European nations. And I, unlike leftists who would consider that a wonderful delight, and neo-cons who consider it irrelevant, consider that a tragedy.

I would hate to see such a grim scenario occur, but I will agree that if moderates such as Fortuyn are marginalized (or, for that matter, murdered), it's not out of the question. I doubt Germany will be the point of origin, though; due to Germany's past, such a movement would be quickly countered by the world's opinion.

Without Moslem immigrants to keep the thing running, welfare state schemes can no longer be funded. Without welfare state schemes, the socialists lose power. That's what it's all about.

I would agree with your criticism of the article, but would go somewhat further. An assimilation which would alter the primary character of the people who established the Nation involved in that assimilation, is not desirable. It would be a negation of the Nation. The sort of assimilation which took place in many areas of America, at earlier times, was among people drawn here from different backgrounds, but with often very similar objectives, temperament, cultural values, etc..

It is imperative that immigration policy be based upon the sort of understanding of what is actually involved in the concept of a Nation, as is being totally ignored today--largely because most politicians are politically correct cowards, who would rather watch America be destroyed than defend her heritage. A Nation is not a game of musical chairs. Ethnicity does matter; and I am appalled at the false, pseudo-morality, which pretends that it does not. The Social Liberal insults all peoples--everywhere--with that sort of nonsense. People, not geography, create cultures. And those cultures reflect important traits of those who created them. Recent College graduates need to open their eyes and start rejecting the indoctrination by slogan to which many were subjected.

Bawer's final conclusions and recommendations are silly.

All along, some Western Europeans have been aware that "Islam is not a race or an ethnicity; it is an ideology" and that Muslims intentionally blur the distinction. If "ordinary Western Europeans are beginning to recognize" this, they are, so far, much too slow and ineffective to take meaningful action. Meanwhile the situation grow rapidly worse and approaches a point of no return.

Perhaps "people can be drawn away from"..."Islamic fundamentalism", but, so far, the number of those who have been is negligible, and Western Europeans have been completely ineffective in bringing this about. There is no promise in this anemic hope.

His plan to admit Muslim immigrants on a trial basis and then expel those who don't "fit in"..."outwardly and inwardly" is ridiculous. He is in fact describing the present situation, and Western Europeans, right now, lack the will to expel Muslims who do not "fit in".

His plan to reeducate Muslims and convert them to Western thinking and away from Islamic thinking is absurd. Muslim immigrants are well aware of Western thinking. They reject it. The number who will be willing to reject Islamic thinking and adopt Western ways is negligible. He has already essentially said so in his article.

His plan to send back Muslims who can't adjust and recruit those who can is laughable.

However his final conclusion: "At stake, indeed, is Western Civilization" is correct.

All this notwithstanding, Bawer's description and appraisal of the situation are very good.

Muslims are not impeded by the confusion and denial that prevent Western Europeans and Americans from taking meaningful action and solving this problem. Theirs is a singularity of purpose, and this is their greatest weapon.

Muslims also know that time and numbers are on their side as they continue to immigrate to the West.

What Western Europeans and Americans cannot--but must--bring themselves to recognize is that the only solution is to halt Muslim immigration and expel Muslims who have immigrated illegally.

A more draconian solution, but one that may be necessary if Western Civilization is to survive, would be to outlaw Islam as a subversive movement, regardless of whether or not it is also a religion, as Naziism and communism have been outlawed in some countries.

The people of the West are understandably reluctant to take such measures, which, to Western thinking, are extreme, but the situation is extreme, and Westerners are going to have to consider such measures sooner or later, and the sooner the better--for everyone!

It is a matter of facing reality and thinking clearly!

The persecution of homosexuals is sufficient reason to oppose the sharia, but it is certainly not the only reason. When "Liberals" finally succeed in converting North America into an Islamic theocracy, so many walls are going to be pushed over in San Francisco it's going to look like the '06 earthquake all over again.
