Sawgrass Rebellion Launched...
The Transformation of Florida
The Wildlands Project targeted Florida as a priority state to transform into its
vision of wilderness, more than ten years ago. The three maps show Florida in 1992 as 90-percent privately owned, and only 10-percent owned by government (represented in green). When the transformation is complete, 90-percent will be owned by the government, with only 10-percent remaining in private hands.
The center map shows what the Wildlands Project expected the government/private land distribution to be in 2002. They were pretty accurate in their projections. If the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan is imposed, South Florida will become the green area shown on the center map.
Other projects throughout the state, especially in the Jacksonville area, and the central part of the state, have acquired land for wilderness corridors and additional core wilderness (green) areas.
Private land owners are being forced off their land by a variety of coersive land-use policies, being imposed under the banner of "Everglades Restoration," endangered species protection, open space, Heritage areas, and a host of other programs, all designed to displace people, or severely restrict the use of private property.
While this initiative has been underway nationwide for more than a decade, the intrusion into South Florida is becoming the last straw - as far as the affected land owners are concerned.
Cries for help from the people in South Florida were heard by the Paragon Foundation in Alamogordo, New Mexico, which agreed to help organize a national campaign to help stop the transformation of Florida, and indeed, the transformation of the nation.
Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee on July 20, 2002, the third annual Freedom 21 Conference adopted the "Sawgrass Rebellion" as a priority project to launch its national plan of action to reverse the negative impacts of the Wildlands Project and and its counterpart - so-called "Smart Growth." Leaders from more than 50 grassroots organizatons in 34 states and two foreign countries were present, and adopted the project and the plan of action unanimously.
This web site reports the situation, and steps being taking to find alternatives that do not displace people, trample property rights, and destroy the dreams and lives of thousands of people.

How is that different from: "We're space aliens, and we're here to probe you"?
Space aliens might use lubrication, no chance of that with the government.
BTW, check the search engine for 'murder' and see the posts from hellinahandcart re: scary islamamurderer loose in NE NJ.
ADM and ConAgra are dancing with joy that this whole environmental movement is driving the small us farmer even more toward the margins and their profits on the importation of food stuffs from other countries will skyrocket! You are what is called a 'useful idiot'. I was one too with the environmental movement at one time too. Then I realized the people behind this movement for the past 30+ years are the communists and malthusians, both of whom think little or nothing of the individual and in the case of the communists, want complete control of the sheeple. When the Sierra Club posts on their website they think the *ideal* population density is 500 people/acre you *have* to wonder what drugs these people are on. (that's more dense than the black hole of Calcutta FWIW).
Go to ruralcleansing.com for more stories to realize this isn't *just* about the water supply in Florida and restoring a bit of nature.
Check these urls too
Plan to restore Everglades could displace Hundreds (or thousands) Sounds like it isn't 'developers' getting displaced, but orchards and farms...HMMMM,lookie at the supporters, Sierra Club (Dave Foreman of Earth First reknown on the board of directors BTW, Dave thinks mankind and technology are all evil)
Everglades restoration 250,000 acres...Gee, here they say it's 250,000 acres of productive farmland, doesn't sound like suburbs waiting to happen either. Also offers a bit of criticism on the overall plan (probably won't work, never been tried before, probably cheaper to get the water some other way but that wouldn't fulfill the wildlands project of all this land out of comission, would it?
Everglades plan contested by EcologistsGee, not everybody approves (and not just those who are being looted...Think there might be 'motives' for this not including nature restoration? maybe??)
10 Oil wells in Everglades consistent producersHmmm, maybe there *is* a motive for land grabs? ya think?
Permits issued to Mine in EvergladesGee, doesn't sound very eco friendly to ME, and lookie who's in charge of the permits. Sounds kind of counter to 'restoration' and 'water quality' doesn't it? Kind of like once Elk Hills was in fed land it only took a stroke of old bill's pen at the behest of Al to see it sold to Occidental. What is done in the name of the environment today to limit private ownership of lands (and the mineral rights underneath said land) is usually looted in the future by a greedy government for personal profit or benefit
Bush Brothers Agree, Ecosystem comes firstGee, ol jebby wouldn't be in on all this land speculation would he?
Comissioners take final look at rural fringe growth planGee, Jebby signs this one taking land away from *more* people? This isn't the everglades project. What's it like living in a 'sending area' or a 'receiving area'. These terms are *straight* from Agenda 21 (UN plan for control of all resources, lots of info on this on the net)...do YOU live in a sending area? Seems like this made the developers land on the city outskirts worth a heckuva lot more (since the developments there would presumably always have a view of greenery) at the expense of the peasants in the countryside. But then (and I can find the quote) summer said yesterday that jeb has a direct line with the developers...guess it paid off for them bigtime!
BTW, countrydummy's land (been in her family for almost 200 years, has original land patent from James Madison FWIW) has been condemned for a 'viewshed'. Seems they applied for funds to improve the very potholed road, funds were approved and *then* they were told the price of said improvement was their land was now in a 'viewshed' and their road was now a 'scenic route'. Seems the elites don't want to look at the humble abodes of peasants when they drive down this scenic route (which beforehand was only a potholed country road in WV).
blah blah blah effen blah.
Say something smart that has to do with the issue at hand or shut up and sit down. this isn't about me, summer or any other individual.
You don't know what the hell you want. You have the freedom bug but you're all caught up in the old government can save us horses*%t. Get it through you're damn head friend, your sweat money is being used by others to further themselves. It's really just that simple, you just haven't realized it yet because you're a piker worried about manners on an internet forum.
Until you're doing this, you're not "helping" me (or anyone else) in any way at all. Feel free to help those who feel as you do currently, I just don't share your views (to put it mildly). It's nothing personal at all.
When I see how nasty enviornmentalists have become, it makes me sad. I well remember how nice the first Earth Day was. Many people learned about ecology and respect for all forms of life.
However, this does not extend to other people, as the nastiness on this thread shows. Did someone revise the constitution to read "Of the people, by the people and for the birds?"
I have a right to challenge policies that are costly--$8 billion for Everglades, I think. Also I have a right to challenge thinking that I find wrongheaded. I think politicians are pushing us to a crisis mentality by saying water is scarce on a planet that is mostly water. I think that we should head them off at the pass on this one and insist that communities who need more water begin to solve, not exploit their problem.
As for "insulters", ad hominem attacks are logical fallacies and bad manners. Would you like to compare intellectual credentials?
I know we have much in common. Come to Naples in October and you'll get to meet me and Joe in person. However you feel about this issue, it'll be a great experience and a fun time.
You're the one that likes "research" so much. I'm sure you'll learn a lot, make some great contacts and pick up some great subject matter for your students.
This is where you fall off the boat.
The Everglades aren't gone and aren't going anywhere. Everglades National is currently one of the largest National Parks in the Nation. A huge wilderness nearly 100 miles wide at some points. Have you ever been to where the "swamps" meet the brakish water of the 10,000 islands? It's absolutely magnificent....wild, beautiful and teeming with wildlife.
That's not including the thousands and thousands of acres of Preserves, reservations, management areas, canals (under the jurisdiction of the Core of Engineers), State Parks etc.
Did you know that the State of Florida didn't even exist until about 10,000 years ago? The Everyglades didn't develop into it's current state until about 5,000 years ago.
As for water? Take a shovel and dig 10 feet down anywhere in the state (with the exception of some northern areas et al) guess what you'll hit. WATER. Most of the "river of grass" is underground and flows beneath your feet, especially during the non-rainy season months. If it wasn't for the disapation to Gulf and the Atlantic Ocean, the entire state would be 2 rain storms from being completely submerged. If anything we have too much of it, it's just managed like crap.
Most of the water problems we've had were caused by exactly those who say they need more of your money and your freedoms to solve problems they themselves created. The worst part is their intentions aren't good and the last thing they're doing is saving any plants, animals or water.
