Limbaugh Urges Traficant: Blow the Lid Off Dem Scandals
NewsMax.com ^ | 7/19/02 | Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff

America's number one talk radio host Rush Limbaugh urged Rep. James Traficant, D-Ohio, on Friday to deliver a "farewell expose" on his fellow Democrats before they vote to expel him from the House on corruption charges next week.

"Congressman, I know you're out there," Limbaugh told his audience. "I would love to hear you deliver a farewell expose, if you will, on the floor of the House, blowing the whistle on all the Democrats who stood behind Clinton and Condit but aren't standing behind you."

The conservative talker said Traficant's bribery conviction paled next to the crimes of the Clinton administration.

"We have a president who was convicted of perjury, lying before a federal judge," he complained. "We had a guy who was perhaps giving nuclear secrets to the Chinese, breaking all kinds of campaign finance laws."

Back then, Limbaugh reminded, senators said they acquitted Clinton because removing him from office would have been "overturning the will of the people." Democrat leaders Tom Daschle and Dick Gephardt made much the same argument for their decision not to force Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif., to resign last year over the Chandra Levy cover-up.

Under House rules, Traficant will have 30 minutes to address his colleagues before any expulsion vote.

"He's promised one hell of a show on the floor of the House," said Limbaugh. "And what he's done so far probably is nothing compared to what he's going to do."

Two years ago, Traficant accused former Attorney General Janet Reno of treason, telling Fox News Channel that the Clintons chose her for the job because she has a sordid past that made her easy to blackmail.

If he takes the advice of Rush and has something real good, he might get enough pubbies not to vote to expel him......nah, they got no 'nads. (Maybe a couple who are retiring might HINT HINT Mr. Armey, Mr. Watts)

It takes 2/3 to expel a member.

That is exactly why I think he did not vote for impeachment.

The thing is, I think he believes he can win reelection. He may be working toward that goal and isn't willing to burn too many bridges.

Having lived in northeast Ohio, I beleive that if his Youngstown constituents get to vote, he can win again. Its a crazy place, that Youngstown. But likeable in its own way (if you like rusted hulks of a steel era gone by).

Personally, I'd love to see Traficant produce some heavy evidence and get the "smack-down" on several of his democrat co-horts. Of course, without some strong evidence, his words will appear to be the rantings of a man gone mad, but what the heck - you only live once. I want to hear what he says regardless.

What I meant is that the traditional Sicilian mob has little power any more. They were pushed off the top of the hill by the South Americans, who were pushed off by the Russians, who are being pushed off by Arabs. The list is really oversimplified and imcomplete, because it'd take too long to fit in the Greeks and add the various alliances and stuff...but I know where you're coming from.

Sometimes, I wonder if they aren't being pushed off the top by the "dot-gov" mob with its crack "IRS" gang.

I am not sure just what is was about my questions that generated the response from you, but I am sorry that my ignorance offended you as none was intended. Can we just put the matter aside and go forward.

Hey if anyone can tape this into a Real Audio let me know. I think Traficant is hillarious and I was debating whether or not to call my congresswomen to tell her to vote to keep Traficant.

I thought it was interesting to note the contrast between the "prosecution" attorney (I forget his name) and Traficant. The prosecutor was smooth, unemotional, and effective. Traficant was a gibbering idiot, who could not put together a coherent sentence, much less a convincing defense. It's almost as though he thought the whole thing was a big game, and he was the star. His mugging for the cameras was downright juvenile, and his rhetoric was random outgassing.

At first I thought it was stream of consciousness, but when I caught his act on various TV shows before & after the hearing, I realized that it was a practiced style. He repeated himself word for word, including these strange riffs when he'd go off on a tangent, fly into a rage, bully and physically threaten people, calm down, go off into some inchoate rant, then make a feeble attempt to tie it together. But at times, he'd forget his lines. For example, during his opening statement, he said he was #4 on AIPAC's "hit list." When he went on Washington Journal the next morning, he said he was #1. But he used the same phraseology, same sentence structure, same scatological references, same profanities.

It may play well at the local bar where everybody buys Jimmy a drink, but he didn't impress me. If his goal was to make a mockery of the courts and a mockery of congress, he's succeeded.

But part of the game was to denigrate everybody and everything--he attacked the judge; he attacked the jury; he attacked the prosecutors. During these hearings, he attacked members of the committee; he attacked the counsels for the committee. Although the committee gave him great latitude, he still managed to attack them. And he did not address his ethics violations. Instead, he attempted to retry his criminal case before this committee and failed miserably.

I don't know what he's going to do when this comes to the floor of the House. But I suspect it'll be his usual incoherent rant. And I do believe he will be expelled. He's become an embarassment to both parties.

Well, that is scary.

If a bunch of Democrats in Washington turn up dead in the next couple weeks, Trafficant probably was involved.

The chance of that happening though is very slim.

I can imagine the "deal" will go something like this:

" Take your medicine like a good boy and you'll get club-fed and maybe early probation. Shoot your mouth off and ?.

My advice is he should go see a" heart specialist"- asap, not drive a motor vehicle and avoid plane rides especially in small private aircraft. Even if he makes it to club fed he may get a bad case of the "Arkansasitis" and die rather unexpectedly. Does anyone remember ol' Jim Mcdougal ?

Knowing that part of Eastern Ohio like I do, trust me, it doesn't matter. They love Traficant in the Youngstown area. Most of Cleveland dig him as well. The last point begs the question as to why Cleveland would send anyone like Kucinich to the House, but ya can't hit 'em all.
