Bizarre and unbelievable. If Ricci had been digging fencepost holes in a particular loction, he would have said so earlier and diverted suspicion from himself.

Have they asked service stations if this guy was seen buying gas?

Amazing. From what I remember, post hole diggers only go deep, not wide, so any body in a hole dug by one would have to be very slim. My memory might be off though.

Either way, this is looking more and more fishy.

Biggest question in my mind right now is, who cleared that computer screen and why? Is the person a moron, or did the person have an interest in clearing the computer screen?

Good point. He must have re-fueled at least twice both directions. Being that a good portion of the way is rural highway, there's a good chance there were no security cameras.

This adds fuel to the fire in terms of Ricci being the perp i.e. the cloths, the golf cap, the whereabouts of the jeep, the white mud on the jeep - rather than supporting a wild eyed conspiracy theory. There is lots of white mud around Rock Springs and Rawlins, WY which are on the way to Cheyenne from SLC.

Post hole diggers can be used to dig deep and wide. Actually, makes holes easier and faster than a spade. Also, easier on the back.

What I mean is, is the person who cleared the screen someone who knew Ricci, or just an idiot who thought no one was using the computer and didn't look before s/he cleared it?

Didn't know that. Interesting.

I hope he's the guy. That family's been through so much. They need an end to this.

Does it bother no one else that the person who claims that a relative, situated just far enough away to fit the circumstantial (or alleged) evidence, identified Ricci seemingly doing chores for a neighbor happens also to be one of the Smart's neighbors, a friend, someone who had previously testified in front of the grand jury on this case?

Any reason to believe that the lady in Colorado would have stopped to identify a stranger doing stoop labor for the guy down the road?

Odd that a similar e-mail was reported, then lost, at just the same time?

Nobody else thinks this is all just a bit too convenient?

Wonder if that is why there does not appear to be a herd of police prowling all over the reported fence line looking for fresh holes, new posts, or just plain evidence?

I've dug fences and deep large holes. I would never use a post hole digger for a regular hole.

Please re-read the article. It never connects the Smarts with the women in the article. The two sisters are only connected to Ricci through a friendship.

"Ricci maintains he had nothing to do with Elizabeth Smart's abduction."

In my never to be humble opinion, Ricci is FOS.

Thanks for posting this article. I'm afraid the Smart case has been put on the back burner today, with all the breaking news about the Runnion case.

Could two cases be more different in the approach of the law enforcement authorities?

I believe I've seen other reports that make the woman reporting her sister's observation as being a friend of the Smarts, not Ricci's. (In this version does it not quote another source as having "reported that..." - it is a derivative quote.

I also question the original article, it states the Smarts have a volunteer working for them also names Smart. Could be, but sounds like a relative and not a volunteer.

And, it still sounds too convenient no matter who reported it - I just don't picture someone hundreds of miles away recognizing this guy on the side of the road digging a hole and I still have not seen a report of police checking out that hole for content.
